Re: Ice maker not making ice.

The infa red sensor should be on constant if the switch on the right is in the on position, if the ben is enpty
if the ben is full the beam will flash interpting the ice maker from making ice untill the level of ice drops down below the holes in the bin then it will make ice again
beam part number if needed is4389102 it comes as a kit with the emitter and reciever boards

Red light inside the freezer part stay on for my side by side Kenmore refrigerator

Hello William;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The, 'Red' light is a infra red light. This light assembly on the right hand side of your freezer is the transmitter.
Directly across is the receiver. On the receiver is a spring loaded plastic flapper.
This is a safety device for your ice maker. When the freezer door is closed, the flapper is closed, allowing the infra red transmitter to complete the signal to the receiver. This allows the ice maker to discharge ice cubes. When the door is open the signal is broken, the flapper springs out blocking the circuit signal, and the ice maker will not discharge ice cubes.
There is a On/Off switch on the red transmitter. I do not know why you would want to turn it off. If you turn it off and the transmitter stays on then you have to replace both the transmitter and receiver.

Ice maker has stopped making ice. Infa-red light on inside doesn't seem to be working

One of the causes of ice maker not producing ice is a bad solenoid valve allowing water to pass by and causing the water line to freeze inside the freezer. In other words, if the valve is not holding very well, it will allow water to pass in the line that supplies water to the ice maker. A small drip will ensue and slowly freeze in the line and eventually turn into an ice plug that will prevent water from filling the ice tray. Thawing out the freezer will not solve the problem, you will have to replace the solenoid valve.

P.S.Test the solenoid valve coil and disconnect the line from the valve to verify that it is not allowing water to pass when not energized. Test the infra red module according the manufacturer's instructions if you have them at hand. If the solenoid valve is good and the infrared sensor system is bad , replace it (Infrared system) . The ice maker should be the last part to consider for replacement at this time.

Ice maker not working

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

Ice maker is not working but water dispenser is.

Try the following check:

First make sure that the temperature in the freezer is 5 degrees or below.

Unplug the fridge and then plug it back in.

If the compressor is running when you unplug it make sure that you wait 15 minutes before you plug it back in.

You will then have 60 second to open the freezer door and 2 second to view the LED output code.

Ice maker check 3 pulses pause 3 pulses

Optics receiver 4 pulses pause 4 pulses.

Optics emitter and receiver 2 pulses pause 2 pulses.

All good 5 seconds on
