Fan just quit working one day. Nothing happens when I turn the light switches on and off.

Is it powered thru a light switch? Sometimes those do just quit. You can remove the old switch & replace it. Go to Lowe's/Home Depot, the switch itself is fairly inexpensive (probably less than $5). Remember to turn off the breaker to that room/switch before you do anything. The installation itself is simple - just wire + to + and ground it. Did you notice any kind of noise/smell before it stopped working? If the motor is burnt out - just replace the whole fan (unless you feel like tinkering with breaking it down & finding a replacement motor). Sometimes the lite switch on the fan itself will go out - parts for that can be found at about any larger hardware store, but sometimes that's not an easy repair (depends on what type of lite kit is on the fan). However, if that were the problem -it would not cause the blades not to turn, it would only keep the lights from coming on. Try replacing the light switch that turns the fan on/off first (the one on the wall, not on the fan itself) - hopefully that'll solve it for you. Good Luck.

I dropped my remote and now it won't work. I changed the battery, didn't' work. I bought a universal Hunter Remote that the guys at Lowe's told me would work, didn't work. I called Hunter, she said I...

There should be a series of little jumper switches (usually 4 white I think) inside the remote that should match the fan. sometimes you can get to from the battery cover, sometimes you have to unscrew the remote case. The instructions should mention this. Not sure if the fan itself has switches, or just hard set. Either way that's only 16 combinations to try.

The control is not working on our fan and light and sometimes comes on its own Mod No 6981-5 App No19636

If this is a ceiling fan,and it is on a adjustable control, then the control is bad. What ever kind of fan it is,if it is coming on by itself, then it would have to be the control causing it,if it is digital ,then the circuit board is bad.

Hampton Bay model 11420 52 inch fan did not come with any instructions.

If the fan and light assembly are fully assembled, all you've got to do is connect the original wires to their respective(white, black and uncoated copper ground) wires. Then mount your motor/light assembly using the proper supplied harware. Next you just put on the fan blades, connect each one with the three screws to the bracket. Do the same for the other two, three or four blades. and attach them to the motor assembly. P.S. When you are attaching the fan blades, make sure the side that faces down is correctly positioned and that it matches all the rest. If this blad is to be operated using the pull cords you're all set. If the fan is mounted too high up and it is not remote controlled then you'll have to purchase a special three speed wall switch for it. In the latter case you would leave the fan speed on high on the unit itself.

Fan or light goes on sporadically by itself.

It could be that a neighbor has a ceiling fan with the same CODE that yours is set at. It does actually occur.
Try setting the REMOTE(Transmitter) AND the RECEIVER, located tucked in among the electrical wiring inside the CANOPY which is also called the 'Hanger Bracket', to a different but SAME CODE for each device. The RECEIVER, which will have four 'dip switches', as does the REMOTE, will be a small rectangular box with a short antenna from one end.
Good luck. :)

Hunter fan/light with remote installed turns on by itself

Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.

But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.

Why does our two year old fan with light sometimes turns on by itself.

If it is not a timed operation then, the contacts are getting loose or misaligned.
