Amana stove stuck in 'lock' mode, door won't open

I have an Amana, free standing electric stove, glasstop. I used the self cleaning mode yesterday and now the over door will not open and on the display it shows in the right lower hand corner "lock". When I try to use the over it just displays "door" on the panel.

I have a Whirlpool double gas oven set (don't know the model #). The top oven is self-cleaning. I pressed the selfcleaning button last night, then start and the oven locked and started the 3 hour cleaning cycle. I went to bed. When I checked on it this morning, there is NO power -none of the buttons light up or do anything when I press them -I tried pressing cancel several times- and the oven is still locked. Any ideas? We just moved into this house, and the people we bought the house from said they had just put an entire new internal 'brain' (all the digital parts you push) into the ovens. I can't afford to replace one oven, let alone 2! HELP!

I have the same problem.  I solved it a couple of times by turning off the circuit breaker then pushing the "stop" button in the range.  It worked well for six months. NOw, it is back doing the same thing (error code F9)  model Amana ARTC8621 stove.

    Thank you

Used self cleaning process on my oven yesterday and today the oven will not turn on, we keep getting message to unlock the oven door even though it is. What can we do?

The oven gets extremely hot during the self-cleaning mode... the door switch might have got stuck in locked position, or broken in locked position (to be replaced), let's hope it's just stuck...which you'll need to work the mechanical lock-unlock latching back and forth to hopefully unstick....and if that doesn't work just re-run self-cleaning process but this time let the oven cool completely before unlocking the door. Hope this helps.

Clean mode temperatures remain on

Self cleaning mode would lock the oven door. Sounds like the control board is bad.

We used the self cleaning option and now we cannot get the oven door open. The lever is stuck in lock mode. Can you give suggestion?

IF you can locate the model number tag (bottom left of door opening) you can look up the manual at

The only button on your stove that should make the door lock would be the clean button (self clean model) if that is pressed simply hit the clear/off or cancel key and wait for the door to unlock.

IF the self clean option ran for an hour or so, you will have to wait for the oven to cool down before the lock can unlock (safety feature)

Thank you and thanks for using fixya

We self cleaned and the 2 days ago and the door is still locked. Help

The lock is operated by a solenoid and may have stuck due to friction or goo around the magnet core. Try bumping the stove or lifting it 2 inches in front and dropping to the floor. 2 inches will not break anything. There may be a mechanical timer in the self-cleaning circuit... is your gas stove still plugged in and showing signs of power such as ability to ignite top burners electrically? If the timer has failed the door lock solenoid is still activated and there could be a slight hum. Try unplugging the range and see if the door can be opened. The thermal interlock should be free to let the lock retract. If that works replace the timer motor. If solid state (no timer motor) replace circuit board with timer relay.

Old Amana - no manual; can't operate self clean feature

Can you locate the model number on the oven? Also any particular name of the stove? The manufactured year. These should all be available on a stainless steel or aluminum attached plate , probably on the back of the stove or inside the door.
I wouldn't try using the self cleaning feature until we get some advice. it could lock up on you and not UNLOCK. Normally self cleaning takes place at 600 or more degrees .

I'm sure others still have the same stove., I will see what I can find for you.
