It was the convergence that failed, the technitian said that when he took it apart the capitors all fell out because of the heat. The cost was $488.00 to get it fixed. The picture hasn't been better. He said the epoxy that hel them in was not good on the earlier sets but the new generation epoxy should be better. I thought they were solder in. The second thing is there is no fan in the rear of the tv to disapate the heat. My brother has 42 inch Rear Projection and his has a fan on a thermastat that game as factory built in. Would a fan be advantagious?

It may be the beginning of convergence failure. IF so, it will eventually fail totally and you will be faced with a $400 repair.

But, could be something less severe. I cannot guess precisely because there are many possibilities and only way to tell would be taking voltage and other measurements in search thereof.

It could, for example, be the convergence lines crosstalking into the video signal. Transistor switch somewhere in the system may need changing. It would require testing to find out.

If you do have an extended warranty policy it should be covered under that, so check that angle out before the police expires.
It will be a convergence issue, probally needs green convergence board repaired/replaced

Fan couldn't hurt, they are soldered in as well as epoxy due to hi temps being reached on components, thanks for rating me not. but I was right "It will be a convergence issue"

    ignore my previous post please..

If you are handy, and can solder, you may be able to save about 700
bucks if not more. There is a very common problem with these Mitsubishi
TV sets. There is a digital board inside these puppies called the DM
board. A lot of times there are four capacitors that go bad inside of
these TV sets. Sometimes, depending on how bad the capacitors are, and
if the capacitors did not blow out anything else on the Dm board, you
can simply replace these four capacitors and this will fix your TV set.
The average that this works on is about 65 to 70 % of the sets can be
repaired with this fix. The others are power supply issues or the DM
board has other issues. If you would like to attempt to repair your TV
set, you will have to do at your own risk

If you would like to attempt to repair your TV set, I will send you the
instructions on how to do so. If you do not know how to solder well,
do not attempt to replace the capacitors yourself. Pay a pro to do this
for you. After all you are already saving a bundle of cash. Leave an
e-mail address, and I will forward you the fix with and without the
light engine. And if the capacitors inside the board are not swollen on
the tops, as the direction shows you what they look like, change the
capcitors anyway. I have had a few that looked good but the capacitors
were on their way out. Good Luck

Look around on the boards for capacitors that look like the tops are
swollen, or they may have a black goo coming out of the bottom of them.
If you cannot see anything obvious, I'm afraid it will most likely be a
repair for the service center. Good Luck

Sony KF50WE610 Vertical Blue Lines Across Screen

the vertical blue lines indicate some interference from other electronic gadgets near your tv. it started showing up on my sony grand wega when i installed my wireless modem. i almost ordered a new rear projection lamp costing over $100 but decided to experiment. i first moved my desk computer farther away from the tv then isolated the wireless modem router by placing it inside a small glass - the vertical blue lines became lighter in color so i dedided to find another small glass that fit inside the first glass container then put the router in the double glass - no more blue lines and my wireless modem router still works.
do some deductive thinking to figure out what's messing up your tv and isolate the interference.
good luck!

know problem of bad caps.
replace DM

Picture of bad caps

The DM board is the one with the digital connectors on the back panel. If you already have it appart, you may as well check the caps on all of the boards. The caps that go bad are typically Jamicon brand caps in 1000 uF and 330 uF values. There are also a couple of 3300 uF caps in the PS that cause problems.

Sounds like you may have some bad filter capacitors in the convergence board. Better take a close look at them before they damage the chips. Good Luck
