REmove all the old memory and replace it by a new memory, you should test memory 1 by 1 .

first install the 1 memory in the first slot. then boot the computer using only 512mb. if this successful. shutdown and insert the second memory, then test again.

note: memory should be:

1. DDR SDRAM
2. the two 512 should be the same brand.

Check the owners manual of your computer for the correct installation of 2 sticks of memory, this can be critical on computers with 2 banks of 2 slots, it will also tell you the maximum ram that will work. If you do not have the manual, go to the manufactures website and then go to the support link, and browse for memory installation. BPCS

CPU will not recognize the last memory slot in my FX4710

RAM, or random access memory, is the physical memory on the computer but only holds data while the computer is on.
The benefit of adding more RAM is that it generally makes your computer faster.
Almost all new computers recognize your RAM after you install it and restart the computer, but if yours doesn't there are a few simple things to do to get the memory recognized.
Check the type of memory you have.
Computer motherboards will work only with the type of memory they are designed for regardless if the memory fits or not.
There will be either a sticker on the memory or a listing on the packaging giving the memory type and speed.
Check the computer's or motherboard's manual for the type of memory that is compatible.

Install the memory and make sure it is tight, otherwise it may not get recognized.
The memory fits into slots on the computer's motherboard.
There are tabs on the side of the memory slots to release it.
Release the memory if it is installed and put it back in by pushing it down straight into the slot until it clicks.

Restart the computer and hit the appropriate key to enter the BIOS.
The key will be listed on the screen.
Go through the menu choices by using the arrow keys.
Look for the memory listing under hardware.
Make sure all memory listings are not listed as disabled.
If so, change them to enabled.
Choose anything listed similar to "Auto detect."
Exit the BIOS and restart the computer.

You may be using the wrong parity or out Latency ram. if they are not similar in latency they will not work in tandem. Make sure both of the ram's are the same MHZ and CS latency. Also, you may have bad ram as well. Try using the new ram first to see if the computer posts, if it does, input the old ram in the second slot, and if that doesnt work, the ram is not compatible with each other.

How do I install an additional RAM card

The IBM NetVista A22p has 3 memory expansion slots. A memory bank is a group of memory expansion sockets, a bank must be completely filled with memory modules of the same size and type in order for the system to recognize and address the memory. i.e. :

*2 sockets (2 banks of 1) This indicates that there are 2 memory slots. These are divided into 2 banks, and each bank consists of one memory slot. So you can add memory one piece at a time for the system to use.

*3 sockets (3 banks of 1) This indicates that there are 3 memory slots. These are divided into 3 banks, and each bank consists of one memory slot. So you can add memory one piece at a time for the system to use.

*4 sockets (2 banks of 2) This indicates that there are 4 memory slots. These are divided into 2 banks, and each bank consists of two memory slots. So you must add memory two pieces at a time (they must be the same size and type of memory) in order for the system to benefit from the upgrade.

*8 sockets (4 banks of 2) This indicates that there are 8 memory slots. These are divided into 4 banks, and each bank consists of two memory slots. So you must add memory two pieces at a time (they must be the same size and type of memory) in order for the system to benefit from the upgrade.

*12 sockets (3 banks of 4) This indicates that there are 12 memory slots. These are divided into 3 banks, and each bank consists of four memory slots. So you must add memory four pieces at a time (and they must be the same size and type of memory) in order for the system to benefit from the upgrade.

  • You Gateway only supports up to 8 GB. memory. Hence it will not see your 5 GB. dimms
  • tops: 8129 MB (8 GB.). 4- 2GB. Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.

  • Specs:
  • Installed: 1024 MB DDR2 (PC4200), 533 MHz memory (two 512 MB modules)
  • Expandable to: 8 GB (4 memory slots)

  • How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

the memory is dual channel, so you have to use matched memory for it to work 1gig in each slot if possible, check the 1 gigs and 512's to see if they run at the same bus speed, if they are not matched there is your problem try a gig and a 512 in slot 0 to see if it picks the memory up, also there is sometimes an option in the bios to dissable dual mode
