Driver installation I have an old laptop that I want to install windows 98 se. It had or has windows 95. I do not have the exact disk used to install 95 but have another one. I reformated the hard drive, but lost the cd rom in the process. I am now trying to install the drivers, but can't seem to get it to work right. I get it to save to the c drive but after that I can;t get it to do any thing else. What do I need to do after saving it to the c drive? Nan

Re: driver installation

Well looks like when you did the format it deletes everyting from the hard drive now the only way to make it works is to go to the laptop factory and go to support drivers an download in for your windows wich is win 98 se or you can go to and get the drivers

A8VE-SE won't recognize SATA HDD

If you are trying to install Windows XP then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hello, well, frankly, I think you're wasting your time. Maybe your best option would be to remove your old drive and connect it to a computer which has a more modern operating system; pref. XP and then your usb stick would be recognized and you can drag all of your files off that way. Windows 98 SE is a lot less user-friendly as there's no plug and play support and there'll be no driver support out there for usb memory sticks unless it's a really old one. Regards, nicam49

i doubt sata technology is supported by windows 98, you need to use windows 2000 at least. microsoft, unfortunately, does not support windows 98 anymore. the only other option is for you to check on your motherboard's manufacturer's website for windows 98 drivers. you could also try ide cd drives.

How can I setup sata drivers using cd or dvd

Hi, I think the problem lies with your bios setting. Set the POST to first boot from the CD/DVD drive. If it is set to first boot from the CD/DVD drive, then the problem comes from the disk. It might not be a bootable disk. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks, Mike H
