Last night I bent the (cheap) yellow input cable a little too much and the stressed cause the cable to snap off inside the tv. Any suggestions on how to get the piece left inside the tv out? For a quick fix I connected my cable directly to the tv instead of running it through the cable box. Now the picture isn't as clear. Is there any way to run the cable box into the tv without using the yellow cable? Can I use any of the other inputs??

If your cable box has the red, green and blue component outputs that would work good as long as the TV has component inputs. Other than that you could use the side yellow input.

Testimonial: "Thanks.... I have to check the cable box. The tv doesn't have a yellow input on the side."

How do I hook a regular cable box up to my Curtis 37"

Hey Ray, you can connect the cable box using coax cable (use google images if you do not know what it looks like). If your tv has HDMI input and your cable is actually HD cable box then you can use an HDMI cable. (Make sure your HDMI cable is long enough and has some slack in it otherwise there is a good chance it can snap off and get stuck in your input... seriously). Last possible way is using RCA cables (Red, Yellow, and White cable). Make sure you connect RCA (Video, audio) out on cable box and RCA (video, audio) in on your tv. I hope this help Ray. Give me a feed back if it does not work. Good luck.

I have an onn 42 inck flatscreen tv and since last night have lost all colour on screen,,,tried cable and scart all seem ok,,any ideas

Hi.

If the problem happens using different input and devices, then it is either the terminal circuit (input/output connectors) or the processing unit in main board. The terminals are unlikely the culprit if problem concerns different inputs.

I imagine that the picture is not properly B&W (gray-shades) but some kind of reddish, bluish or greenish picture as the LCD will process picture using RGB (red green blue) channels instead of CYMK (cyan yellow magenta black) like CRT TVs.

Test the TV using an external aerial. You will notice if the channels have the wrong color even from static.

Use different inputs, different cables and different devices. beware of SCART cables, the SCART contacts are very easy to break. A defective cable will loose picture. Better testing using AV cables and component cables. AV cables are red/white for sound and yellow for video. If the two-wired yellow cable does not work, then the TV is faulty.
Other test can be done using component cables. Component cables send the three red-green-blue signals on different cables, hence testing is simple. Test swapping cables and see if TV tone stays the same if color tone changes the problem were the cables. Test also using at least two different devices (e.g. one DVD player and one TV receiver or a playstation).

If you find that the TV is defective call the manufacturer at the number listed on manual. If the problem is that one or more RGB channels do not work the TV main controller board must be replaced.

Regards.

TV BLEWUP

What would cause that is failure of some part (probably a filter capacitor) in the set's power supply. The usual cause is component stress due to manufacturers keeping their costs down by using parts that just barely can stand their operating voltages. (Higher rated parts would last longer, but would cost more.) Some parts are just a little too weak and break down. It's not unusual to have this kind of problem these days. The set would be repairable unless there was physical damage to the circuit board itself. You might have it looked at and get an estimate for the repair.

Do you get this accross all inputs on the TV? if so then you have a problem in the video switching circuit causing a loss of both color and video information.

TV

If you are using cable and the signal is connected to the TV through the regular cable wire, then the TV must be in TV mode to work properly. If you are using a cable box with that TV then the TV must be on channel 3. If the screen shows AV 1, then the TV is in the AV mode (red, white and yellow RCA jacks), and you most likely accidently hit the INPUT button on the remote. Pressing 0 3 or INPUT a couple of times on the remote should bring your picture back.
