There may be a fuel delivery problem. Check the fuel filter on the free end of a hose in fuel tank (manufacturer recommends an annual replacement). Check all fuel delivery lines especially at fittings and bends for cracks and holes. If those are good then the likely cause is internal parts of the carburetor are dirty or have failed. HTH

Was it stored with fuel mix on board? If yes it will take a while to remove it from all passages and hoses.

    Fuel/Oil Mixture

Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)

Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 3 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine.

Tune it until it idles and cuts properly. 1.5 CCW is a good starting point. Tune for performance. I CCW is as lean as I’d go. Clean air filter, fresh mix, fully warmed up, bar mounted and properly tensioned. HTH

It runs best just before it ceases (CW = lean). The more CCW the more oil/fuel.

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2009

3/4 CCW is quite lean. I'd run it at 50:1 with Stihl or Husqvarna 2 cycle engine oil. The absolute richest mixture I'd use is 40:1. The more oil in the mix the more smoke.

These folks have been in chainsaw business forever, Please take a few minutes and read it all.

    http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20fuelmix.ht...

My first chainsaw was a Skill 16" (1979±), I only kept it long enough to run 3 tanks of mix through it, then Pioneer FarmSaw. The manual on my Pioneer says 24:1; I use 50:1. DO NOT USE generic 2 cycle oil. Read the Madsens post.

How do I find an owner's manual for Olympyk chain saws?

Check the compression on it. If under 120 psi it probably needs a rebuild. If it has good compression put a spoonful of fuel mix into the carb throat or sparkplug hole and try it. If it hits a few times the fuel system needs attention. Joe

Steering lock malfunction

check cranking compression also is ther gas on the spark plugs after cranking the motor say 20 seconds no gas then suck some gas into a 2 foot peice of vacuum line blow this gas into the manifold throttle(a spoonful) then crank if it starts then maybe bad fuel pump check to see if fuel is at fuel rail when the motor is cranking got gas? got spark ?are plugs blak and sooty ?(repleace) then check compression if its low by 20 to 30 pounds or has nun its jumped time at the timing belt/chain ask about that at auto zone and the ramifications

When i try to start it it fell to start

There are two common problems - fuel starvation and spark. Firstly, take out the spark plug and earth it to the body of the saw with a pair of insulated pliers, pull the cord and see do you have a strong blue spark. If you do, put five or six drops of petrol into the cylinder, replace the spark plug and pull. If it starts briefly, you have a fuel starvation problem. Good luck!

Can't start my Chain Saw Husqvarna 350.

The fuel may have been replaced, but is the fuel filter clean or is the fuel line cracked? Even though you cleaned the spark plug, did you check to see if it has a spark? If not, maybe a new spark plug or check the wire to make sure there is nothing blocking where the wire and spark plug connect. Is the air filter clean? Just a few more things to check out...

Doesn't want to start. Replace carb and ran for few seconds, Make you think that it is not getting gas, but pouring gas into spark plug does not help and drying spark plug dose not help. Spark appears...

The spark should be blue and snappy. Try a new plug--any help? If not, it may need a new ignition module. Check the flywheel magnets--they should be quite strong. The module gap with the magnets underneath the poles should be about business card thickness. Check the air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Hope this gets it running!

Starts and dies

Remove and inspect the spark plug for fouling. Replace if needed or if you have never done so yet. The next thing would be to concentrate on fuel delivery at the carb, it may be in need of attention.

I HAVE A 350 ABOUT 4YRS OLD ABOUT TEN HOURS ON IT, I EMPTY THE GAS OUT EACH TIME IM DONE... WENT OUT TO START IT, FIRED ONCE THAN NOTHING, CHECKED PLUG IT WAS WET, CLEANED, CHECK GAP ALL FINE, HAD SPARK,...

I recommend that you go to any auto parts store and get an aerosol can of starting fluid. Shoot a couple of quick bursts into the air intake area and pull it. Repeat until it starts.

If you can have a second person operate the aerosol can for you it will go easier. Let it run on the starter fluid for a few seconds until the glaze in your carbeurator is cleared out.

In the future after you empty the gas out of your chain saw start it up and run it until it completely runs out of fuel.

Saw was running and quit checked gas and oil both are full

Check to see if you are getting spark. If you are getting spark then it is not getting fuel. Try sparying starter fliud in the carb. If is starts then stops. Take the fuel line off to see if something is obstructing the line. Also the fuel filter can be changed.
If you are not getting spark with the spark plu relace the plug. Also to check the spark, remove the plug and put a screw driver in the plug wire and ground the screwdriver. a spark should come off the screwdriver
