Bought this camera for my son for Xmas. Supposed to be waterproof so he took it surfing. First day no problems, second day turned itself off and won't turn back on. Put battery on to charge, charger keeps blinking but after 5 hours camera will still not turn on. Is this a cemra, battery or charger problem? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karyn.
I have the olympus stylus 770sw, charger would only blink..... I unplugged the charger (not the wall side, the side on the box where the battery goes) and twisted the cord 180 degrees and plugged it back in. It started charging fine
Your all in trouble.. im on my third one..a pro surfer/shaper... you must wast it completly with fresh water immediatly after leaving the sea.. the chrome corrodes within hourd and allows the seals to leak. also sand etc gets stuck in the lense door...
I had the same problem. I contacted Olympus and they said one thing to try is to unplug the cable from the charger (from the charger side, not the wall side), twist the cable 180 degrees, plug it back in and try charging the battery.
It sounds weird, but they said it sometimes works.

Please be sure you did put the batteries in correct. Only one the wrong way around, could stop the camera from working correct.
Never try to shoot a picture or make a video, when the camera is connected to the computer. It then will act as a external memory to the computer and will not shoot any picture.
I have the exact same problem and i still have no idea what to do with it i tried changing the batteries and everything but it just wont turn on there are no lights where you change change you settings and i can't take any pictures with it someone please help
Sorry for the loss of the memorable moments. First the issue of the unit being reconditioned can be quite tricky as you really cant tell how capable the person who would handle your unit is. Warranty cover could be an advantage as you wont have to pay for the repair but still doesnt change the idea of the unit being reconditioned. If i were to be in your shoes i would do one of two things: first, will be to leave the unit for a couple of days and see if the issue still repeats itself as since the unit is sealed the same way the moisture got it it will come out. but if it does then option two will be to take the unit back and trade it is for another camera since your warranty still exists this should be easy to arrange. Hope this solution has been helpful?
Well, getting it wet voided your warranty. Remove the battery and card...don't try to turn it on to avoid short circuits. You can try to bury it in some dry, uncooked rice for a couple of days. Water , especially salt water, is disastrous to cameras. The chance of it working are slim and even if it does for awhile, it may stop altogether later. Keep your fingers crossed.
I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.
A fairly common problem with "underwater" cameras is that the sealing surfaces that are supposed to keep the water out fail to some degree due mostly to lack of cleanliness when the camera is closed up. It takes VERY LITTLE salt water inside a delicate electronic device to wreak all sorts of havoc.
Look carefully inside the camera for any sign of salt deposits or corrosion. If you see that, the camera is likely toast or at least in need of a repair job that likely will cost more than a newer camera.
my finepixz3 got wet. but after a few days it worked! but when the battery ran out it wont charge. is it the battery? it turned on a few sec when its in the cradle but it wont last after a few seconds it would turned off. is it the battery or the camera itself?
