Problems with Canon 40D, it won't turn on.

I was taking photos with my Canon 40D, the red light that appears to tell you it's recording an image seemed to freeze, the camera flashed Error 99 and shut off and wouldn't come back on. I cleaned all of the contact points for the battery, memory card, flash and lens, then tried again. No luck. We switched memory cards, batteries and lenses but it still won't come on.
