Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60WF655 60" Rear Projection HDTV

3 Answers

Tv went black. I don't hear the fan running anymore either. Power/Standby is flashing 6 times. TV is about 2.5 years old. I'm being told it can be the bulb or the ballest. I've noticed the Lamp indicator isn't showing a red light so I'm thinking the bulb isn't the problem. Based on the 6 Red flashes; anything I can do rather than spending $200 for a repair svc company to come by and diagnose the problem and also charge for parts

Re: Tv went black. I don't hear the fan running anymore...

In respoonse to my original question the issue was the thermal fuse which was about a $16 part. The issue was to much dust build up in the back of the tv. Granted, this should be cleaned and check every month or so. Plus, there was a vent very close to the back of the tv. Therefore, everyone should make sure their tv is checked for dust ever couple months.

I did not have a red light and the bulb was still the problem. After 2 1/2 years you might need the bulb anyway if the set gets some good use.

You may have a thermal fuse bad. This is not a part that should be replaced by an owner unless you are a TV tech. Call someone and have it done

My sony KP-443X3U rear projection tv went to standby and I cannot get it to switch on. It is approx 6 years old. I think the bulb needs to be replaced?

Google the model number to locate it with "lamp" and You Tube has video instructions for replacing in most models--lamp has a 2,000 hour or 2 year average life and is meant to be replaceable by the customer who owns the set.

The tv switched off and the lcd light started flashing green

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.4_12_2012_1_20_07_am.jpg
look at the power board inside the set to see if puffed up caps like these that are bad.
A model number (not indicated here) would be helpful.

I own a Sony KP-51WS520 that has been down in the basement unused (unplugged) for 2 years. I decided to set up my "man cave" and went to turn on the TV. It started right up but after shutting...

Hi Hank,
The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue. There is no user replaceable Lamp in KP51WS520 TV.
Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Tv went off while watching a program power standby red light blinks 6 times then pauses then repeats tried unplugging unit waiting a few minutes then replugged same results nothing. can anyone help me ?...

Here's an excerpt from the Sony Manual online. And the link -

The POWER/STANDBY (red) indicator flashes three times
If your power/standby indicator is flashing in a pattern of three flashes, this may indicates that the lamp cover is not attached securely. Follow the directions in the Operating Manual under changing your lamp that related to closing and securing the Lamp Cover. Ensure that the Lamp Cover Door is securely fastened by tightening each screw.

The POWER/STANDBY (red) indicator flashes continously
If your power/standby indicator is flashing continuously, and the lamp cover has been secured, your TV may be in need of service.

The POWER/STANDBY indicator is lit up green (not flashing)
A sustained green light indicates your TV is on.

The POWER/STANDBY indicator is lit up red (not flashing)
A sustained red light from your power/standby indicator simply indicates that your TV is in standby mode. This shows you that your TV is ready to be turned on with the remote.

Is it the power light and not the lamp light? If the lamp light is flashing then replace the lamp.

Power/standby light flashes 7 times and the tv doesn't turn on

Audio Protect (7 Flash): When DC voltage is detected at the speaker or
woofer outputs, IC3604/pin128 (TV-micro) goes low and IC3604 turns off
the main power (AC relay turns OFF).
Troubleshooting Tips:
1) Main cause of defective will be located on the KD-board
2) Confi rm KD-board is securely seated on the G2-board
3) Replace KD-board
