Problem for Dell Latitude D600 PC Notebook
I have a Dell Latitude 600 when you turn it on it
I have a Dell Latitude 600 when you turn it on it fires up,goes through the bios dell page can hit f2 or f12 and can get into there ok.It WILL NOT start in safe mode ,f8 not going to mode or f7.Pulled out hard drive all files are still there.Now last week the laptop was plugged in and we had a storm,laptop was off but power went out the back on 3 hrs later and now laptop don't work?

larkn5, I incurred the same exact problem this morning on my Dell Latitude D800. Dell bios page fires up, but it goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor on the top left. It worked fine during and after the storm, but I find it interesting that someone else is experiencing the same exact problem. I have a friend that's going to take a look at it this weekend. I'll let you know if I find out more. JPMiller

Does the BIOS recognize the harddrive? If not, the ATA controller might have fried.

During the POST, press F2 and look through the BIOS tabs until you find the page that lists the installed drives. Usually this is the 1st or second page.
You should have 2 drives installed. Your HDD and an Optical.
If both show up, then the problem is likely unrelated to the ATA Controller (which is part of the Motherboard).
The Dell Recovery CD can be requested from Dell, or you can enter your service tag number on their site to see if it's available as a download.
