Question about SmartDisk FireLite XPress USBFLXP60 60 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Data recovery... I was transfering photos/videos to another external HD when my SmartDisk FireLite 100 GB HD fell on the floor. Now it just keeps making small beeping sounds but will not start up and the computer does not see it. Can I just buy another one and switch out the insides to see if it works? Should I take it to a repair place? What should I do to recover me photos? Thanks!

Someone wiped out part of my hard drive. Most of it was backed up on a firelite model usbflb60. I need to restore the data on the external drive to the hard drive on my computer.

You can run recovery software like Get Data Back on the drive. It may take up to several days to scan the drive and you may not always get the data back. You will most likely have to pay for the software.

SmartDisk FireLite 40 GB Hard Drive makes a clicking sound..

You will need to recover the data using something like this data recovery program.
I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to take out the hard drive from mac and put it into a Windows computer as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.
Good luck.

My computer stopped detecting my hard drive

Hi, Based on your post/description: 1. Tried on 3 different computers - no go, so it's not a PC problem; 2. Tried replacing the cable - no go, so it's not an interface problem; 3. That leaves you only with the Firelite itself. An external hardrive would consist of 2 main parts, the electronic board and the hard disk itself. The board seldom (if ever) fails. Its function is to provide conversion/interface from the SATA/IDE connectors of the HD to the out USB/Firewire. The HD more often than not fails. Most external storage uses a standard HD inside the enclosure. Your possible options: a. Claim warranty/replacement; b. Replace the HD only; c. Physically remove the HD and connect it direct to a desktop either as IDE or SATA and run manufacturer's diagnostic and/or third party recovery software; d. Seek services of professional data recovery firms (if data/files are mission critical); Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
