Question about KitchenAid KUDR01TJ Dishwasher
It fills with water as it should, pauses, then when it should begin the wash cycle all it does is hum. Is the motor blown or is it possible it is just stuck? I tried looking underneath to spin the blades as I saw on another site but the motor is completly enclosed.
The pump has either got a clog or is a gonner, as we say. humming is a sign its trying to run, there is current across the armature, but it is stuck. could be the starter windings or it could have a capacitor that is malfunctioning. you would need to know the value of the capacitor to test it. and a tester to read the value.
do not just let the motor hum, as it will eventually heat up and may cause a permanent failure, which would be a waste if the issue is a plugged inlet. check for debris around the filter at the bottom, remove the filter for cleaning if its the type that comes out, and if so, check the bottom of the sump for debris that might have gotten past the filter.
another cause can be the timer.
beyond clearing a clog, you need a serviceman if you don't have tools and a schematic. the capacitor will have the value on it if you want to test it.
