The water control valve for the ice maker side is your most likely reason. If filling ice maker with tap water and allowing to freeze. If it dumps then the water control should fill. if not the valve is not working. Sea Breeze

Ice maker stopped working...water works, ice tray has water, ice maker is turned on. curious if I should just replace the motor or if it could be something else

If your ice maker is not making ice and you poured water into the ice maker, that would indicate the ice maker is not cycling. If you have any make or model except a whirlpool, kitchenaid or sears kenmore, if you replace the ice maker, you will be making ice in no time. If you have one of the aforementioned brands, AND the ice BUCKET is mounted on the door, you will have to replace the electric eye boards on either side wall as well, as these often short, damaging the icemaker electronics in the process.

I have a 1993 kenmore 27 sxs ice make problem. I have water getting to my fridge at the bottome where the valve is. but no water getting to my ice maker and water in door. it seems that the water is shut...

Take the two lines off the valve and try the dispenser to see if water comes out and if you hear the valve click when you try it. If you hear it but no water comes out then the valve didn't open. There is a screen filter in the line before the valve that can be stopped up. Replace the valve if it doesn't work. If water does come out Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws. Covering the opening with a blanket will prevent the loss of cold in the freezer.

This is in response to fixxa 144. The model# for the Whirlpool unit is ed2shaxmq. It is a SXS with the ice container in the door. There is no voltage between testpoints L-N I removed the ice maker and...

When you open the freezer door , the receiver should flash 2 times then pause , repeatedly . Close the flap on the left side , and the emiter should stop flashing and be off . If you open the door , and no flash , then the icemaker should be in the harvest cycle ( trying to dump ) . If not trying to dump , then the ice maker is bad . Also check the black fill tube , above the ice maker fill cup . A lot of times , it will freeze up , not letting water get to the ice maker ( sign of a bad water inlet valve ) . As far as voltages , I don't know of any techs , who check this way .
If the optics are responding this way , and the black fill tube is clear , then the problem is the ice maker .

Ice maker does not work. Water does not full the cubes yet I checked the back and the water line is attached. I can still get water from the door just will not make ice cubes,

You would need a volt meter to narrow waht component has failed. It sounds like you have a sxs unit with ice and water in the door. There is a double valve in the back of the unit (if it's a GE Built Kenmore -it may have a double -double inlet valve). You would need to hook up your volt meter to the inlet valve side for the Ice maker. This is where the 1/4" tubing is going into the valve. Next you need to know haow to harves the Ice maker. Most newer Ice makers have an module in it. ther is a jumper sequence that you need to do in order to get the ice maker to harvest maually. Once the IM is harvesting, note the voltage at the valve - this is not a constant voltage- you would have to wait until the IM is in the cycle where it energizes an internal switch to send 120v to the water valve.. If you are getting 120 V and No water, then you have a bad valve assembly

I have a Kenmore model 106 9555710 SxS - no wate through door

check inside the bottom of the refrigerator for water, the water line goes thru the back of the refrigerator and it may have cracked and leaking inside instead of going to the dispenser.
if not then water is most likely frozen in the line going thru the back of the refrigerator. look behind the pans in the refrigerator and there should be a coil of clear plastic water line, this is the reservoir that chills the water for the dispenser. sometimes it will freeze up if the refrigerator is very cold.

Kenmore Ice Maker

Sounds like a water valve problem to me. Force the ice maker to cycle. (turn it off and let it get cold for at least an hour then turn it back on). Test for voltage on the ice maker side of the valve. The valve is usually in the back near the floor. Just follow the water line. Another solution. switch the wires on the water valve. then try the water dispenser and see if it makes the ice maker fill up. See if when the ice maker cycles water comes out the door. If the ice maker causes water in the door , replace the valve, If door switch causes ice maker to fill up replace ice maker again.
