Re: No heat

Magnatron is suspect. Need to put a voltmeter and see if the input (primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in there) is getting 120Vac. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing the magnatron. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"

Sounds like the high-voltage magnetron (the heating unit) is not getting power. It could be as simple as a broken wire inside the unit (which would explain the spark) or a failed control board or high-voltage power supply (which also might let go with a spark).

Microwave will not heat, but will turn on. Clock and Timer still work. Turntable turns. Making a loud humming noise and light flickers

This clearly indicates a bad magnetron, "heats food" in most cases it is cheaper to replace the microwave oven than have it repaired, since the magnetron is the heart of the unit.

A number of days ago we put two plates of food in the microwave to reheat them. There was a snap, crackle, pop noise. We checked to see there was no metal object in the unit....there wasn't ...we know...

Are you sure the plates were Microwave oven safe? Some dishes have metal in the colors of the design. A snap, crackle, pop noise normally means there is metal present in the oven.

It appears that the noise is coming from the the turning or spin-

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

You probably have a bad motor.

Not heating food

While it's possible it could be a door switch or mount, it's most likely a bad magnetron or a bad connection at the magnetron or on the control board. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: You can order parts for Samsung models here:

The most likely causes are defective a door switch (or switch mount), a bad connection in the high voltage section, or on the controller. I would direct you to my safety text file and door switch text file for critical safety info anf info on testing & replacing door switches.
