Toshiba HD-A30 won't play digital sound with HD DVDs

When I put regular DVD's into the player the sound is 5.1 dolby digital. If I play an HD DVD in the player the sound shows SUR DECODE PCM rather than dolby digital or DTS. All of my connections are through HDMI and I have a top of the line reciever that carries the digital video and sound.

-   I have the same problem. Toshiba tech support states that the A-30 only sends in PCM format...and not TrueHD. It is up to the receiver decoder to do so. No firmware or upgrades available either...

They say the A-35 will do TrueHD.

Try checking your audio output in the setup screen of dvd player. Try setting Digital Out HDMI to Auto, if it isn't already. See if that helps.
