Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6451 Top Load Washer

Washing machine problem

My Maytag clothes washer....when it spins the motor runs fine, but the entire clothes bucket inside is moving, loose enough with your hand to push side to side and front to back. It makes a sound like in the old days, when a bathroom rug would throw it all out of balance. Clothes are not spinning dry? Could it be a belt or leveling device? Is it time to toss it......5-1/2 years old and seems in good working order otherwise. Sure would like to keep it.

    spin cycles

Yes. When machine goes into spin cycle, and there's a light load of clothes in washer, the unit bucks like a bucking bronco. I know it's the

tub hitting the sides of the unit. And yes, the washer is level, from side to

side and back to front. Even when clothes re balanced in tub, problem still occurs.

Sounds like the upper bearing located in the outer tub seal is bad. It takes very little play at this bearing to cause what you are describing.

My machine is spinning, but clothes are still very wet, have to drain and spin at least twice to get them dry enough to put in the dryer

If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.

The washer is not spinning well...Clothes are partly wet when cycle is completely off...it used also to leak at one time where we can see some water when the cycle is complete...

Hello, when the clothes are partly wet when cycle is complete then check these.
1. Motor coupler
2. Spin cycle

MOTOR COUPLER; To test the motor coupler, restart the washer in it's spin cycle, let the machine runs for a minutes and then open the lid and notice if the tub is spinning: if it's spinning when you lift the lid that means the coupler is fine and if it doesn't spin that means you have to replace it.
SPIN CYCLE: If the washer doesn't reach it's proper spin speed, the cloth may be wet at the end of the cycle, check to be if the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again,if the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt which you have to replace.
Thanks

During the spin cycle the drum becomes unbalanced and thumps.

I assume that your saying this happens all the time and not just because you have too many clothes on one side of your washer. First make sure your washing machine is level and there is no problem with the feet. If that checks out take the cabinet off the washer and check the tub hold down springs/straps and make sure they are still attached....they can come loose or break. Hope this helps!

My washer doesn't wring the clothes fully.

It's not spinning fast enough because of a loose or worn belt on the motor. Post back with your model number and I may can find a diagram of your washer to help you.

If the motor has a transmission, it could be stuck in 1st gear. I think the agitator running is normal.

Washing machine won't agitate.

Depending on type of washer, typical top load Maytag, motor turns in opposite direction for wash and spin. Your problem will no doubt be the transmission.

Maytag Atlantis 7600 spin cycle (top load)

the maytag runs in one direction for wash. it reverses to drain and spin - check for a broken or loose belt. maytags I have run into circa 1989 have two belts. as for the softener dispense, there may be a solenoid valve that is supposed to open. may be just a flapper type of valve. softener goes in by gravity feed.
