When i see this error i simply put my windows cd in to the computer and boot from the cd. Then you will have an option to repair windows. This repair will fix the problem and you will not lose any of your data.

First thing to check is to make sure that you don't have any floppies, CDs, or even flash drives or memory card readers plugged in when booting. Because if something got messed up in your BIOS, this 'can' cause the computer to try to boot from these devices and give that error.

If you have ruled that out and you still get the error, try to boot from the Windows XP Pro disc. You will have to make sure the CD/DVD drive is set as the FIRST boot device in your BIOS or you will continue to get the error.

Here are the steps to fix the problem IF you have ruled out all of the above. This is for XP ONLY.
  1. Insert the Windows XP Pro bootable CD into the computer.
  2. When prompted to "press any key to boot from the CD" press any key.
  3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
  4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
  5. You will then be prompted for your password, enter that password.
  6. Copy these two files to the root directory of the primary hard drive. (typically C:\ ) We are copying these files FROM the CD-ROM. I have no way of knowing your CD drive letter. Quite possibly D:\ This letter may be different on your computer.
    copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
    copy d:\i386\ c:\
  7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

That's about all I got for ya, based on the info you provided.

Ntdlr is missing

You can download and burn the Hiren Boot CD to fix this. However in most cases you'll get another error. Re-installing the operating system is your best option. If the recovery console doesn't work (F10) then you may also need to replace the hard drive. If you don't have the recovery discs. You can order them from HP.

Nntldr missing

NTDLR missing is the baseic directory that hold windows. You have lost this somehow, maybe a virus or similar.
What you now need to do, is obtain the Windows install CD, boot from it and allow it to get to the stage it looks for an existing copy of windows, perform a repair and reboot, this will retain all the files on the HDD

If this fails, then you will need to do a full install from scratch, as before, but the drive will need formatting and you will lose the files you have on the drive

(I suggest you see if you can borrow another computer, slave the hard drive to it and pull off the files you need before formatting it as decribed above)

Ntldr is missing

Check the connection between the hard drive and the motherboard. When you get the NTLDR warning, it is telling you that the hard drive is not being read. There maybe a failure with the hard drive itself.

Error message NTLDR missing on formatted hard drive

You need to either reinstall windows, or take the hard drive out, hook it up as a spare drive to a working computer and copy NTDLR to the root of the laptop hard drive. It would be much easier to reinstall windows. You can always use the recovery portion of Windows, but if I were you I would just do a format and reinstall. NTDLR is just a startup file for Windows XP, that does not mean your hard drive is gone or anything. Please don't forget to rate!..Thanks

Ntdlr is compressed error message

Could you please let me know about your operating system?

Since this error comes up due to faulty or corrupt BIOS. Please update the BIOS from the microsoft website.

If that does not solve the problem then you might need to reinstall the windows.
