Wire your computer to the router and change the access code from there... if you need the username and password for the router, you must then do a hard reset. search google on how to do that for your specific router. Google is your friend.

Is it possible to change wpa2 to wpa?

Yes you can, but WPA encryption is not as strong as WPA2.
Go into your router's wireless setting and change the encryption setting to WPA and enter a new encryption code (hex numbers), your router may allow you to enter a passphrase in lieu of hex code. This is easier to remember a phrase than a bunch of numbers. After you save and exit the router you then need to apply the router's wireless settings to the wireless card in the computer to allow the computers to connect to the wireless router.

Cannot find wpa code

You can factory reset the router using the small button on the back, hold it in for 30 seconds with the power on to the router. This will clear all settings from the router including the password, so you will need to set up the router again after the reset.

How to set a password?

  • Access the router's default configuration address through your Web browser by entering this address: (see Resources). Do not enter a user name. Enter "admin" for the password. That process works for all new Linksys routers. If you have changed the user name or password in the past, use the user name and password that you created.

  • 2

When the configuration screen opens, click on the "Wireless" tab and select "Wireless Security" to view the router's current security password. The "Security Mode" field will say "Disabled" if you do not have a password to secure your network.

  • 3

Select the appropriate encryption type from the "Security Mode" drop-down menu. Linksys routers offer WEP and WPA encryption. WPA encryption allows you to use a single password to access the network. WEP encryption creates 10- or 26-character keys that act as your password. Some of your wireless devices may only utilize a certain type of encryption. Determine which protocol is best for your network.

  • 4

Enter a password that will be required to access the network. For WPA encryption, you can write your own password. For WEP encryption, click the "Generate" button to create passwords that can be used to access the network. Write down your passwords and keep them in a secure location.

  • 5

Click "Save Settings" to confirm your changes. Your network will now be secured and will require a password for access.

  • 6

Click the "Administration" tab to create a password to access the router configuration page itself. Be sure to change the password from the default "admin." Reenter the password for confirmation in the next field. Click "Save Settings" to confirm your new password.

    Unable to find WEP Key

The WEP encryption key (network key) is in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the computer or laptop to connect to this wireless router.
I recommend you use WPA or WPA2 encryption, it is much stronger than WEP.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer or laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

    Laptop can't connect to DSL-G604T

You need to configure your router and use WPA encryption so that all accessing device can connect to it.

The obvious reason why the dell laptop can't connect is because of the WPA encryption set. It is different compared with what your router is actually broadcasting: WPA2.

So you can choose one of the 2 things to alter. Change your router's WPA2 encryption to WPA or change your Dell's setup to WPA2.

Will not connect to internet. no drivers in computer

The WRT54GS router from Linksys is a wireless-G broadband router. This router lets the user access the Internet through a wireless connection as well as use it to share resources among computers on the network. The Linksys WRT54GS comes with a CD-ROM, which will run a Setup Wizard to walk you through configuring your router. Without the CD-ROM, configuration can be done through the router's web-based utility.
    1. p 1 Launch your web browser, then type in the address field. Press "Enter". On the password screen, leave the user name blank. Use admin for the password. Click "OK".
    2. Step 2 Select the appropriate Internet setup settings in the Setup>Basic screen. Many of these settings are obtained from your Internet Servicemag-glass_10x10.gif Prvider (ISP). Other than the settings obtained from your ISP, the default settings should work for most network applications. Set the time zone in the "Time Zone" field. Click "Save Changes" before navigating away from this screen.
    3. Step 3 Select the appropriate wireless standard from the drop down menu in Setup>Basic Wireless Settings. If in doubt as to your wireless standard, leave the default selection at "Mixed'. This will work for most network applications. Type a name for the Wireless Networkmag-glass_10x10.gif Name. This name must be identical for all wireless devices on the network. Click "Save Settings" before navigating away from this screen.
    4. Step 4 Select the appropriate security method for your wireless network in the "Wireless>Wireless Securitymag-glass_10x10.gif" screen. If you do not wish to utilize security, leave the default setting of "Disabled". It is recommended to use some form of security for your wireless network. Whether you use WPA or WEP security, all devices on your wireless network must use the same encryption method and encryption key. Click "Save Settings" before navigating away from this screen.
    5. Step 5 Reboot the router so all the changes take effect.

I have a Netgear wireless router DG834G and i am trying to connect a wireless Brother printer and it is asking me if it is No Authentication or Encryption, No Authentication with WEP Encryption,...

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

    1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
    2. Access the router usually else try
    3. Login to the router with the Username as admin and password as password (unless you have changed it).
    4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
    5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
    6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
    7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

How do I put an encryption on my linksys router?

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. This can be done by:
    • Enabling WEP or WPA on the Router
    • Enabling Wireless MAC filter on the Router
    • Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
NOTE: The wireless security modes available may vary depending on the model of the router and wireless adapter you are using.
    Enabling WEP on the Router
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wirelesssecurity which does not change. It provides comparable confidentialityto a traditional wired network. There are two types of WEP you canchoose from:
    a. WEP 64-bit: This type of WEP consists of 10-hexadecimal codes. To enable WEP 64-bit, click here.
    b. WEP 128-bit:This type of WEP consists of 26-hexadecimal codes hence it is moresecured compared to WEP 64-bit. To enable WEP 128-bit, click here.
    Enabling WPA on the Router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless securitywhich is dynamic in nature. Meaning, it changes depending on the timerenewal you will specify. Hence, WPA is more secured compared to WEP.
    • Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (WPA-TKIP) – utilizes a stronger encryption method and incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers.
    • Advanced Encryption System (WPA-AES) – utilizes a symmetric 128-bit block data encryption
    To enable WPA, click here.
Enabling Wireless MAC Filter on the Router
Wireless access can be filtered using the MAC address of thewireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You caneither permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to yourwireless network.
To permit wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
To prevent wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
Disabling the SSID broadcast is one way of securing your wirelessnetwork. This procedure will prevent other users from detecting yourSSID, or your wireless network name, when they attempt to viewavailable wireless networks in your area. For instructions, click here.
