Hello there
t_g_blake.
Don't you just hate it when that happens? I know I do. Therefore, here's your geek-steer ...
Those beeps you hear is your
BIOS alerting you about a hardware related trouble encountered during the
booty Power-On Self Test (POST) in the only language she knows ... beeps!
FIRST, determine your exact BIOS type. None of spec sheets I've located provide that detail, probably because HP used more than one in your specific model (hp pavilion m7667c). This ain't no
thang though, because even better is for you to "read" which type during your
bootup sequence. At the outset of
bootup this info will be displayed.
TIP: Your keyboard's "Pause/Break" key at the right moment may help out here if it displays, then exits too quickly.
Once BIOS type is determined, refer
here for a surprisingly good troubleshooting checklist to execute in order to deduce which hardware component is the culprit. Be aware that your precedence/order for beep code interpretation is
"Beep codes common to HP and Compaq desktop PCs" first, THEN specific BIOS type. This is because manufacturers many times modify the
licensed BIOS and tweak it specifically for their needs. I also note this because the beep code arrangement you describe does not seem to match any of the HP specific codes. Therefore, carefully listen, then proceed with whichever of the codes match in either HP specific or BIOS type specific lists in that order.
Regardless, by performing the referenced checklist, you should end up determining your trouble component, replacing it, then getting your joy back.
ADVISORY: It is very common for beep code indicators to be wrong, it's just the best the poor stupid little glob of circuits can do. But it's all you have to go on for now (which is way better than nothing), unless you're aware of any other clue(s) not covered in your question.
Good luck and get geekin'.
Afterward, I encourage you to please post back ...
- to let me (and interested others with similar trouble) know how things worked out,
- to provide clarification or feedback,
- if you have ANY further questions.
Today's the best day of my life ... and NOW you're part of it!

Oops! The following ...
"Those beeps you hear is your
BIOS alerting you about a
hardware related trouble encountered during the
BOOTY Power-On Self Test (POST"
... should read...

This was NOT a "Freudian Slip" I assure you :)
