Question about IBM ThinkPad T21 2647 Notebook

Battery charging recepticle

The female plug on my charger shorted on the inside. It got real hot and I'm affraid that it may have melted the connections to the male recepticle in the computer as it does not make connection when plugged in. I repaired the charger and tested it on another computer. Works fine. I would loike to access the back of the male recepticle in the computer to see if a connection came unsoldered that I might resolder it. How do I gain access to this? it is a thinkpad 2653

Re: battery charging recepticle

Here is a link to the IBM manual - warning what you want to do is probably a complete teardown of the machine and soldering equipment.

You may want to buy the power jack before taking it apart.
Try they have the right one.

How do I fix my laptop battery charger plug I'm

Unless you are adept enough and have the special tools to open the laptop and resolder the female connector you will have to take it to a repair shop to have it done.

Save your money because working on those things is very labor intensive.

Why would the plug melt on an Acer 5315?

Plugs melt when the connections 'short circuit'.
This means the positive and negative energy paths are touching.
Even the smallest AAA or 9V battery will get really warm if your connect the terminals together, and the power supply of a laptop computer pushes more more power (amps) than a little battery.
If it is indeed the power connection of your laptop has some melting damage, I must recommend you have your laptop and its power supply serviced or replaced, and to not plug it into the wall until you do. Fires have started by malfunctioning/damaged cameras and computers.

I hope that helps.

Charger will not charge and charger gets very hot. Why?

Not uncommon for them to die, although they should run warm. Does it get hot when its not plugged in?

If your battery is shorted that can cause a PS to get quite hot. Take a Multimeter and check the output voltage of the PS and see if it is working and outputing the correct voltage.

There are only 2 possibilities, powersupply needs replacement or the battery needs replacement.

The battery does not charge anymore ,the bios setting says idle

remove battery and reseat.
Use VOM (Volt-Ohm Meter) and phsically check to make sure the power supply is putting out advertised voltage (typically 19-20 VDC)
Make sure power supply recepticle (the female part on the laptop itself) has not been broken or reamed out such that contact is not being made.

When you plug power supply in, does the charging light on the laptop come on?

I have Gateway MX6027 laptop. My ac adapter get real hot. i went through 2 chargers in the last 2 months. I am wondering if I got a short on the motherboard, or maybe if there is a voltage regulator that...

Does the AC adapter get hot if you use it to power the notebook with the main battery removed? If not, the battery or internal charging board may be faulty/
