Re: spool pin

Spool pin is usually on the top Right hand side of the machine. It is sometimes not clearly visible (it looks like a small metal rod protuding out, but not long enough to hold your thread). You will have to pull it up so that it extended and then you can use it.

How do I replace the spool pin on XR65 sewing machine
Posted on Sep 11, 2012

This is from a Model 5160; might it work?
Two ways.. either put the new spool pin in the other extra hole to the left of the trap door on top
OR take out the two bigger screws on the top cover that hold it in, also take off the knobs on the front sliders (patterns selection) and remove the top cover. Push the old pin out from the inside with nail or something similar and replace. Posted on Feb 03, 2010

How i use twin needel

Although your machine does come with a second spool pin to allow two spools of thread, it does not come with a button or setting for a twin needle. You can probably put one on, but I must caution you that you can only straight stitch on it, because if you try even a narrow zigzag, its likely that one of the two needles will hit the plate and break, and they are expensive.

If you want to try it, I can tell you that you need to buy a twin needle--preferably one with the two needles close together. Put one spool in its regular pin, and the other on the extra spool pin, and thread both threads exactly the same, and at the same time. You will not be able t use a needle threader--you will have to thread them by hand.

Spool pin loose- always dropping off

Do you have it extended all of the way? You have to pull up on the spool pin to put your thread spool on.

LS 2125i haveing problems getting the top thread

I don't know about now, but in the old days you had to pull out about three inches of thread through the eye of the needle & hold it with plenty of slack while turning the wheel on the end of the machine slowly. Once the needle disappeared below the plate & then reappeared you could stop turning the wheel & slowly pull on the end of the thread you are holding to pull the thread from the bobbin up. Of course there must be thread on the bobbin spool & it must be some extra hanging out. (not broken off flush with the spool)

Hi - I'm sorry you have been waiting for an answer to your problem. Can you tell me whether this was first time you used the cartrige, or has it been working up until now? Unfortunately, the cartridges tend to break fairly easily.
To determine whether your cartridge is broken, take out the thread and thread it again. The cartridge won't lock-in unless your presser foot is up and your needle is raised to its hightest position (needle threaders are designed to prevent damage, so they often won't work if the parts of your machine are not positioned properly for threading).
If the cartidge still won't engage, check the page in your manual that describes the parts that came with your machine - you should see a picture of a spool pin. Although the spool pin is designed to accommodate spools of thread that don't fit in your cartrige, you can use the spool pin all the time. Your manual describes how to install the spool pin.
Fortunately, you can purchase spool pins and replacement cartridges from several online sources, including eBay, and some Babylock Dealers sell them (the Babylock and Brother cartidges are interchangeable). I have the same machine, and I always keep an extra cartridge around. I can thread the extra spool while the other is sewing. When the machine stops for a color change, I just insert the extra cartridge with the next color, then thread up the empty cartridge for the next color. Speeds up your embroidery alot.
On Google, type in Brother Thread Cassette - you'll get lots of hits, and you should be able to find a cartridge for about $10.00.
If you have and other readers have time to rate my answer (good or bad), your rating helps me determine whether I understand your problem.
If you have more details about your problem or have additional questions, please feel free to comment. I can send you the instructions for threading the cartridge and installing the spool pin if your manual is missing. Just submit a comment - and I'll help anyway I can.
Cheers, Ginny

Lost Spool pin and cap for QuikStitch SP-402

Welcome to FixYa. If you have a spool stand, that might work as long as you can thread the machine properly (give it a try!). When the thread is placed on the machine's spool pin, the spool cap keeps the thread in place and helps the thread unwind evenly - so if you are using a spool pin, you really do need a spool cap.

If the spool stand works, you are good to go. If you need to order replacement parts, I've provided a link the manufacturer's website. From there, you can contact customer support and find out if parts are available. If you can't order replacement parts, ask customer service if the machine is compatible with another brand. Another option would be to buy a spool pin and cap at a sewing machine dealer. Take the machine with you and and make sure the parts fit before you buy them.

Here's the link to the site I mentioned:

Thanks for stopping by. If you have an extra minute, feel free to rate my solution. I'm eager to improve my solutions if they are not helpful. If you have further questions or would like to consult with another FixYa expert, just leave a comment and I'll do what I can to resolve your problem.

Thread constantly wraps around spool pin

Cut a round curcle of fabric the size of the spool from a piece of felt. Put a hole in the middle and put it under the spool of thread. If this does not work you can purchase a small net that fits over the spool. It is designed to keep the thread from coming off the spool except for being pulled through naturally.
Hope this works.
