Why won't mu usb cord work for downloading pictures

Here is one possible solution. Some devices require that you use the USB cable that came with the device. Other USB cords won't work. This happened on a Nexus tablet I bought recently. When I tried to charge it with another USB cord, nothing happened. I had to use the exact USB cord that came with the tablet, even though both cords looked identical.

My digital camera when connected to laptop with usb cable used to open a window to import pictures. this is not happening now. i have installed NIS 2009 since i last imported pictures with the camera....

nope ...probably the properties of the autoplay features were changed of that removable device or whatever is the camera seen in the my computer folder after plug in ...or ..something happen with the program that came with he connection driver ...but if its a new one and do not needed a connection driver ...and just pop up every time and prompt for an action ...removing all drivers and reinstalling them will fix the problem ...or ...plug the cam. right clic on it into My comp. go to autoplay ...and select an action for it to perform each time you plug it ...

When I plug in the M407 camera nothing happens

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Need the driver for E317 HP Photosmart camera have win 98 SE

Should be able to plug in as a USB device without a driver for 98.
If it doesn't work, a 98 driver is available from here:

Cannot transfer files to notebook, no camera icon

Remove the camera software. Restart the computer. Plug in the USB Set the camera on Ensure it is set to up-load mode. You will get the Scanner/Camera Wizard come up asking you what to do. Let Windows do the work and leave the software disk in the box.

Where to get a Samsung s500 usb cable

I can't imagine why in the world you would want to pay an inflated price for another proprietary USB cable. I haven't plugged a camera directly into my computer for years. The last time I did, it was balanced precariously while downloading pictures and got knocked off the table. The USB cable stopped its fall, but the jack in the body of the camera was twisted in the process and completely ruined. A much better option would be to head to your local Comp USA, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. and purchase a 9 in 1 card reader. It's a small block of plastic with several slots that will accept a wide variety of memory card formats that have been created over the years. With this single USB device you can read/transfer data from many different devices that you may own. The reader can stay attached to your computer all the time. You simply take the media card out of your camera and plug it into the reader whenever you want to download your pictures. Simple! As an added benefit, you can now make use of that pathetic 128 meg card that came with your camera. Write all your internet accounts, passwords, and other important info to it. Then hide it in a safe place (deposit box) in case of disaster.
