Question about Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 (U01E200) 200 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Corrupted disk When I try to go into the f drive, it says that the disk is corrupted and unreadable, and won't even let me in. What do I need to do to fix this? Recently someone added a lot of files to my external hard drive from their desktop computer because they wanted to sweep their computer clean. They saved needed files by adding them to my hard drive so that they would later be able to remove the files from my drive and add them back to their computer. After the files were added to the drive, I attempted to connect and use it with my laptop, but it prompts me to format the drive before use. I know that if I do this, all information on my drive will be erased. This is not desired. I opened the command prompt for the drive and it said, "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted." I also opened the properties window of the drive and tried to check the volume for errors; however, it says that I must format the drive first. I don't know what to do at this point. I have important information on my drive that I do not want to erase if there is another possible solution that may resolve the problem. Please help.

SOURCE: cannot erase/format hard drive

You cannot format your c drive while running an operating system. You will need a bootable disk to complete this such as your operating system disk that your going to load.

I connect my apello m300 to laptop.but show this error in that time."The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" why show this messege

Compare the "corrupted message" to a child with a pen writing all over the "table of contents" of a book. Some of the entries in that table of contents have become unreadable.

So, the "logical-integrity" of the disk-drive has been compromised, either by a software error (Windows writing files to the wrong place on the disk-drive) or by a hardware (Windows tried to write files to the correct place, but that part of the disk-drive cannot reliably be accurately recorded).

Western Digital External USB 3.0 1 TB Hard Drive: The disk is inaccessible. The file structure is corrupted and unreadable

There is companies that make data recovery, you could try them, there is also some for private use, but they are not that good. But those companies will pay a lot, if you have a good home insurance you could try them to pay recovery.

Depends how much you appreciate the information on hard disk.

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

You unplugged it when data was still written on it so it was corrupted. Some files are still recoverable so use
to get them.

My external hard drive is corrupt, i want my data back.

Data can be recover but the drive must be accessible by OS. As you write windows vista says drive is not accessible and that the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.Do one thing try the same drive at another PC. If it run on that PC copy the data to that PC. Now format the drive and paste the same data back to your drive. But, if same thing happend then there are chances of fault in the driveand for this you shuld visit to the service cetre but, they are not responsible for the data.

Corrupted disk

When a disk says its corrupted or unreadable it can ne 2 things 1.) The disk is physically faulty. or 2.) The file system is corrupted. Well check to se if its the file system by doing this: 1.) Go to Start->Run 2.)Type cmd and press enter 3.) (with the drive plugged in)Type chkdsk f: /f /r and press enter It should attempt to check the file system and fix problems if it can. If the utility doesn't start at all or stops half way and says it cannot continue then the problem might be with the drive itself. In that case you might need to acquire sofware to retrieve the data. GetBack Data NTFS works pretty good. If that is the case, You can always take it to a data recovery expert if the data is very important. And if the problem is with the drive, i would really consider getting another one! Good Luck Regards, Armando
