Canon SD850 IS showing "unidentified image" after pic is taken

After taking more than 200 pictures I am now getting a ? with unidentified image showing. I'm using a 4GB elite pro sd card. I found this same problem on another dcresource website but without a solution. The picute appears to have taken fine but when recalled late I get the "?". I put the card in a reader and tried different programs to open the picture but without success. It does the same thing for both .jpg and .avi files. I tried using the Canon tech support site but could not find it among FAQ.

i have the same problem wtf???

I had a similar problem which I believe may be attributable to the 4GD SDHC card I installed. I did not have the problem with the original 32 Meg card that came with the camera. In addition to the unidentified image problem, many of the images on the card had distortions such as half the picture shaded yellow or a vertical line or shift in the image. Does anyone have a solution for us? Thanks!

We have just experienced both of the above problems. We are using 2G SD card from Kingston. After about 400 pictures set to mdeium resolution we get many pictures with the ? mark unidentified image. I see that each image takes up about 2M of space but the image information is not stored so you can not open the file. Also other images have the shaded problem as above.

does anyone have any ideas about this. Is it the camera or the SD memory? We just bought the camera about 3 weeks ago and are now thinking of returning it

I gotta problem with my digital camera it looks like it doesn't wanna save any pictures on the card ??? it takes pictures but it doesn't save them?? i got SD elite pro memory card its a brand

There could be a few different problems, one, the pins that are inside that connect to the card often get bent or damaged. Two, the reader itself could be damaged inside.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with your notebook, and nothing you can readily repair; most notebooks’ video cards and their drivers aren’t equipped to display video through a projector and on your notebook at the same time. You could try updating your video drivers, but you will likely have to change your system’s primary video source to the projector. Solution:
Different PCs may require slightly different steps, but opening Display Properties in Windows XP should generally be your starting point. Click Start and Control Panel and double-click Display. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab. At this point, you should consult your notebook’s users manual to configure your notebook to use the projector as your primary video source.

Vivitar itwist610dvr won't save files to my sd card

Unless you've found a VERY rare 4GB SD card, your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. The 610 will not work with SDHC cards. Try using an SD card, 2GB and smaller.

Same problem here on a Power Shot A3150 IS with a 8GB micro SD.
All worked well, then bom, only unidentified images. But the camera doesn't tell you unless you review the images...
Tried 5 recovery softwares dso far, some recover the images into a bmp, which then also says unidentified image... Even the camera can't read them.
And if I take a movie, I get an ASCII chaos in the folder the images are recorded in. No solution so far.

I have heard of this happening if the card was not formatted on your camera. Be sure you retrieve what you can from the card, then format it in your camera. It may solve your problem. The higher capacity SD mem chips (>2GB) sometimes don't display with some computers. I had to use a separate USB SD reader because the computer would not read the 4GB chip when I put it in the SD slot.

Using the Ixus 95IS I now get Unidentified Image - this is useless how can I rectify

This happens when your SD card is nearly full. Backup all the images on the card to your computer hard-drive, and then format it. That should help with the 'unidentified image' messages. You might also want to think about getting an SD card with a larger capacity, at least 4GB.

Unidentified Images.

I would try formating the card using the camera (menu - setup - format) - THIS WILL ERASE ALL THE PICTURES YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ON YOUR CARD, so before you do this you may want to get a memory card reader and transfer the pictures (click and drag) to your computer. As to using the 4GB card...you will have to check with canon if a card that size if compatable. Not all cameras work with SD cards larger than 2GB.

Canon ixus 70 - "unidentified image"

Occasionally the SD card will fail. To check this try a different card and see if you get the same result.
