Error code 2-3 it turns on and inmediately goes down

Hi, colleagues!
I have problems with this TV, based in codes, my problem is located in deflection system. Horizontal deflection is O.K., but Vertical is not... would you help me telling me where vertical pulses are generated??? I have scope.
In advance, thanks.

Vertical IC LA7845 has changed, and capacitors also checked. In fact, there is no vertical pulses at the input of LA7845.
I'm very confused error code is 2-3 (horizontal error), but horizontal pulses are present and o.k. on the other hand,no verical pulses...
Do you have another recommendation to try???

    In advance thank you.

Sorry, but coludn't find Q5A37... are you sure the number is right??? I would appreciate if give me more info about the transistor... I have the service manual.

    In advance thank you!

  • Adonisdu Apr 09, 2008

Hi Scott, Self test indicates 2-3 error, using my scope, I found that Vertical deflection doesn't work, at the first time I believe the same like you (check vertical deflection output), but with the scope I discovered that there is not vertical pulses from the signal PCB.

    Another recommendation? PLEASE!!!!

    Thank you!!!

  • Adonisdu Apr 09, 2008

  • Adonisdu Apr 10, 2008

Yes, I've checked the vertical pulses, and the only I'm sure, it's that pulses are not coming from PCB signal (that´s why there is not vertical deflection output), I have schematics, so, maybe you can give me more tips to check due PCB signal looks very complex.

    thank you!

  • Adonisdu Apr 11, 2008

    Hi Scott, good news!!!!

I found the problem and now the TV is working. I have to say this is the first time asking for help in Fixya.com; so, please, excuse my inexperience using online assistance.
I´m going to give my feedback to you like the best solution, BUT, take a note you were not 100% exact.

The problem (hope you have schematics) was:

No signal SDA from the memory to IC2V00, pin 35 (CXA2142), this circuit generates Vertical (missed) and horizontal pulses; I think that at the first time you turn the TV on, the microcontroller executes a self test verifying all principal and peripheral circuits, and there wasn't communication between IC2V00 and microcontroller, this explains why IC2V00 doesn´t generate vertical pulses...
Now, How Did I find the problem? using an scope I tried to capture data pulses SDA, on pin 35 (IC2V00), and I saw a third state (high impedance) but memoryµcontroller efectively had. As you know, traces on this board are very thin and fine, and it was a broken trace in the solder join of R2Y08 near of IC2Y00. FIXYA!!!
Let me tell you that I received 4 solutions from different users, but unfortunately they don't look like their rank says, but reading your answer I can see you are an expert that only years of intensive work gives you. That's why I've decided to give you my acceptance.
Now you have a friend ready to help you, feel free to contact me! adonisdu@hotmail.com

Thank you!!! You're a really expert.

Perhaps I will need your answer to press accept.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) Check b+ goin to flyback durring turn on, if it does not come up to spec then change flyback. Also check the h-output and b+ fuse. report back to what you found durring these checks.

vertical problems? there are several caps 100uf @ 10 or 16volts on the signal board, they are around a metal sheld. check or replace. also check b+ to vertical and caps around it. last... could be bad vertical.

    Scott Henderson Apr 09, 2008

did you check the pumpup diode? so your missing v-pulse.
ok i will have to pull a schematic, but i think i comes from the signal board. did you check your caps on the signal board? the vertical pulse is the first to start messing up when those caps go bad.
Also did you check the singal board for fluid damage from a leaky tube?

  • Scott Henderson
    Scott Henderson Apr 10, 2008

isn't this board multi layer board with traces that go in and out of the board? in the schmatic, check for vertical pulse from where it starts. its comming from an ic flat pack if i remember correctly. if you have it there. you may have a broken trace, and where i would have no clue. look at the schmatic for anything in line with the v-pulse, and try to get the closest safest spot you can to run a jumper.

    Scott Henderson Apr 11, 2008

your not understanding me. look at your schematic. find the chip with the v-pulse or v-drive. check this pin with scope to see if you have it there. if so then you will have to trace the broken trace from that point to the vertical. also you never responded about checking caps, i'm not talkin about the ones around the vertical ic. i'm talkin about the ones on the signal board. 100uf @16 volts. they need checked on a cap checker like one from sencore. if you can't check them then replace them. the caps will appear to look fine. must be checked or replaced. also i'm taking that you looked for fluid damage around the front of the signal board. I'm sorry to say that your the only one that can find the broken trace, i have no clue. they could be damaged anywhere. They only way i can help you more is to have a picture of the top and bottom of the signal board, and a copy of the signal schematic.

sorry its hard to hit everything on the nose, but i know i've seen bad traces on the board before, but they are always in differance areas of the board. glad you got yours fixed, thanks for the thumbs up.
Yes i've been in it for along time, but just started helping on this site. hit me up on your next one.

1. Self-diagnosis error 2-3 indicating deflection failure. Check for shorted or leaky Q5A37 part # 260P818050 located on PCB-Main. If found defective replace only the transistor instead of the Main PCB.

As far as I can recall, this set uses a standard vertical IC. Check that first. It should be an LA7837 or somethint similar. Also, check the capacitors in the same circuit as well as the supply voltages to the chip. If that fails to resolve the problem, please update this and we'll move on to other areas.

I know these sets well, you lose brightness but still have sound?

If the green power light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out the set has a self check for error codes:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device"(input) and "menu" buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

let me know what you find--hope that you find 2 blinks, a pause and two blinks--this is the most common and easiest to fix.

Most of the Mitsubishi rear projection sets made from about 2000 through 2006 have a self diagnostic check feature. It will indicate if there is a error or not and point you in the direction of your trouble.

Based on the error code I or others can tell you more based on the error code and the EXACT model number of the set.

Here is what you do if it turns on for a few seconds and then the power light goes off.

Hi,
Most common problem in WS-55819 is failure of convergence output chips and blown pico fuses in power supply section.
You need to read out error code in tv, procedure is as follows:
Pressing the front panel "INPUT" and "MENU" buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds,
activates the Error Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem has occurred since the last Initialization.
Note: The front panel buttons must used, NOT those on the Remote Control.
• The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
• The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
• The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
• The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Example: If the Error Code is "24", the LED will flash two times, pause, and then flash four
times.
Error codes detail:
The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below:
"12" ... indicates no error has occurred.
"21" ... X-Ray Protect circuit.
"22" ... Short Protect circuit.
"23" ... Horizontal Deflection failure.
"24" ... Vertical Deflection failure.
This way you can determine what section got problem in tv and causing problem.
Let me know if you need further info.
Thanks.

My TV shuts off as soon as I turn it on...What is causing it to do this??

Hi there,

When it shuts off. Try doing what's called a self-diagnostic test. As soon as the television shuts try these steps.

Pressing on the front panel's 'INPUT' and 'MENU' buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds, activates the Self Diagnostic Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem has occured since the last Initalization.

Note: The front panel buttons must be used, NOT those on the Remote Control.

-The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
-The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
-The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
-The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
-Example: If the Error Code is ?24?, the LED will flash two times, pause, and then flash four
times.

The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below:
Self Diagnostic Code Description
1 - 2 = no error detected
2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current)
2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies)
2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection)
2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source).

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution.

1 Answer

The tv sound works all the time when turned on but occasionally the video either does not come on or goes of while watching it.

It is usually a vertical deflection circuit problem. Here's the basic troubleshooting:

  1. Make sure that no front panel buttons are inadvertently stuck in an "engaged" position.
  2. Press MENU button. If a small horizontal line appears at the center of the screen, you have lost vertical sweep on your TV. The protection circuit shuts down the picture to protect the tubes from burning a line across them. The intermittent problem may indicate a loose solder. Try resoldering the vertical output IC. The IC along with the B+ feed resistor back in the sweep power supply is most probably bad or has a loose solder.
  3. Press the DEVICE and MENU buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold it for 5 seconds to activate the Error Code Operational Check. The status LED indicator will then flash denoting a two digit code.
  4. Count the number of flashes then pauses for about a half second then flashes again. The first number of flashes indicates the first digit of the error code and the second number of flashes indicates the second digit of the code. For example, if the error code is "24", the LED will flash 2 times, pauses, then flashes 4 times. The error code is repeated a total of 5 times. Error 24 indicates a vertical deflection circuit failure.
Please let me know the code you'll and I'll tell you where the problem lies and how to fix it.

IT WONT POWER UP

The model you have selected should have a self check feature: when turns off and the green power light goes off:

ON THE FRONT OF THE SET PRESS AND HOLD BOTH MENU AND INPUT(some sets the input is called device) together for at least 5 seconds and then release both buttons.

The power light should blink a two digit error code: for example: 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks--it will repeat the code about 10 times.

error codes for this set:

1, then 2 no error detected
2, then 1 X-ray protection
2, then 2 short protection
2, then 3 deflection circuit problem
2, then 4 vertical deflection problem

2, then 2 is the most common and easiest to fix.

Let me know what you find and if 2,2 I have detailed instructions for repairing that kind of trouble.
