I have an iMac intel core duo. I was playing with the finder and the drive's icon disappeared from the desktop-how do I recover it?
How can I be sure the drive is working-the (lost) icon indicates available capacity but in the iMac's finder there is no indication of it working

1. Restart your Mac with the drive plugged in. 2. Use Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) to look for the drive.
3. If it isn't mounted, select the disk in Disk Utility, select the Disk First Aid tab, and click Repair Disk.
4. Look in the Finder Preferences and make sure that you haven't disabled the display of disk icons on the desktop.
