- no it doesn't look 3d and whatever colors that are in the tv show is the color of the lines. they make the picture look blurred and wavy looking the lines move kinda up and down a little

- with the satellite off the lines are blue and at the bottom of the screen they are blue and blue
I have a suggestion that will tell you and me exactly what your problem is--Does set have small button on front that says MAGIC FOCUS? If it does press it and after it starts press it again--it will stop the magic focus and bring up the convergence grid on the screen----you will see a grid of lines and just need to look at them----if red or blue is out of place you have a convergence problem--very common on this kind of set.
If set does not have MAGIC FOCUS BUTTON (IT IS ON THE RIGHT OF THE KEYBOARD AND MAY BE RECESSED) You can remove the front speaker grill and the inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny small push button switch on the left front of the circuit boards--it will have blue button--us something not metal (I use a eraser end of a pencil) this will engage the set into the same convergence mode.
You just need to see what the grid looks like--if it is skewed etc--YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A CONVERGENCE PROBLEM.
If it is a convergence problem I CAN TELL YOU WHAT IS INVOLVED TO REPAIR THE SET---it will depend if you can do it yourself or need to have someone do it for you--most of this repair is just getting at a few parts and being able to do good soldering etc.
Try to check to see if you actually have a Convergence trouble or something else--if the lines on the grid are not white--red or blue bowed or out of place anywhere--it is convergence problem.
Seeing is believing and if you see the grid looks bad.
let me know--I am here to help people---I HAVE FIXED HUNDREDS OF HITACHI SETS WITH ALL KINDS OF TROUBLES--CONVERGENCE IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM--BY THE WAY: CONFIRM THAT ACTUAL MODEL NUMBER IS 51F500.

I connected my Hitachi 51F500 51" rear projection TV (1080i) to my HTPC through a straight DVI and ran into a problem with resolution. BluRays and DVDs look perfect, but windows looks horrible. I can't read any text and can barely decipher the icons on my desktop. I've spent hours altering the display settings with nvidia controller and can't resolve this problem. nvidia controller recognizes the tv (even shows the model information) and has specific settings for the tv but still completely blurry on any setting. I've read some info on 1:1 ratios and I think that may be the problem. Does anyone know if this tv can be set to the 1:1 pixel? If not, will powerstrip software resolve this? PC specs are: EVGA nForce 730a mobo w/nvidia HDCP chipset; AMD Phenom Quad Agena; 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2; Plextor BluRay/DVD/CD; 1.5 TB storage. running XP sp3 until MS offers multiple license of W7. Thanks to any help in advance!
