What year did the 8400 come ? How many different drivers are there ?

Dell Dimension 8400 PC"s use either Broadcom Extreme Ethernet controllers OR, on SOME models of the 8400 that do NOT have ON-board Ethernet connections, SMC Networks Ethernet Drivers. I've seen MANY a Dell Dimension.

The drivers can be downloaded one by one.

You maybe need to unzip the file before you install.

Here is only drivers for win xp.

You can`t download a setup disk but you can call dell support
to order the software from them (if they still have it) by the service tag.

I've seen this issue on some of my other Xerox machines (not the 8400 specifically). 9 times out of 10 the solution is to update both the printer driver to the newest version, as well as updating Adobe Reader to the newest version.

If you need a motherboard a Precision Workstation 370 motherboard is essentially the same and is available, (8400 motherboards are scarce)

have you tried a different graphics driver? the NVidia 8400 did have failure problems but yours might be ok.

I would reload the driver, or switch drivers. Best on an 8400 to be using the most current PS driver. You can find it on the Xerox.com site.
Just click Drivers and downloads, then in the search box type in 8400.
Then click drivers and downloads once again and download the newest driver.
I hate to ask you to do this, but that also sounds like machine software ( firmware) corruption and shutting it off and on could cure your problem also, But yes I know, that wastes ink.

I would try two things: One pull the GeF 8400 out and boot as you normally did, install the drivers for the 8400. Then reinsert the Vid Card (8400) and when it looks for driver viola... If that fails:
Second if you can get in at all try the old F8 key on the boot up...and see if you can get in using SAFE MODE...and install your drivers from that point. Assuming the second set fails update the video driver using device manager.

You want to try something different.

1. Go to www.xerox.com
2. Click support and drivers.
3, In the search box type in Phaser 8400.
4. Select Drivers and downloads.
5 Scroll down and find Jetfix snipit, and download that, follow the procedure, maybe more than once.

The price from Xerox is $750 plus labor to replace the print head.
You can also look up service dealers in your area on the xerox website. Most will get you the print head and labor much cheaper. I emphasise the MUCH portion of cheaper...
