Ice maker quit - LG refrigerator model LFX25960ST, ice maker PN 5989JB0001A

Same as http://www.fixya.com/support/t154327-inoperative_ice_maker Same relatively new LG model LFX25960ST, ice maker PN 5989JB0001A. Is there a break down or drawing to help me get to the water supply line and thaw, if that is indeed the problem? Issue started after removing a frozen, jammed accumulation of cubes above and in trays. I thawed with warm water. Certainly didn't break anything mechanical that I could tell - fingers cycled fine afterwards. Could I have gotten water in something? I'd assume such an area is relatively water proof - it's a fridge, not a DVD player! :o) But then again, something is wrong and not obvious to me! I'll hold the cube size selector to confirm ejector finger operation to ensure problem isn't greater than I expect. Thank you for any assistance.

-   I had the same problem also except mine was on the lfx25950 model. I ended up just buying a new icemaker part number (AEQ36756901) for ~100 of ebay and now it works again.-   Guest

-   Same problem here. My fridge is white, not stainless. I disassembled ice maker and cleared ice jam out. I did not give it enough time to get all the water out and it never filled and was frozen again 2 hours later. I have removed it once again. This time I will make sure it is bone dry before re-installing and hope for the best. My LG isn't quite 13 months old. I will complain to Sears where I purchased it, but I am thinking that I will need to shell out the $100 plus S + H for a new one. What a disappointment! This will be the last LG anything I ever consciously own! -   hartwick

-   Sounds like the "fix" is to buy a new ice maker, try to seal it better, and keep it set to make small ice cubes. Maybe keeping the water level low will keep the splashing from occurring as easily. I'll let you know how this works for me. -   jeffgirod

-   Ice maker has stopped working although it will cycle through fill. But ice has to be ejected manually as the plastic ejectors will not rotate all the way once the water has frozen. Looking at the specs it appears that there is a heating unit that will heat up for 30 seconds (I assume that this temporarily melts the bottom of the cubes so that the ejectors will pass through). As of now the ejectors will stay at the top of the ice. This is out of warranty - replacement is about $100 and can be installed by removing two screws and unplugging. -   nbrooks

-   This seems to be the same problem but there is no troubleshooting advice on how to test for sure.  To try and solve things, I have cycled the ice maker power off (for 1/2 hour) and then back on.  No change.  I have held down the ice cube size selector button for 15 seconds or so and the extractor fingers cycle through a complete revolution but the filler valve never re-initiates the ice making process.  I guess I'll try removing the beast and seeing what I can see on the workbench. We've had the ice maker assembly kit replaced once under warranty but now it's doing it again and the warranty is over.  You can see an exploded parts drawing at:  https://www.vancebaldwin.com/shop/research_new/ZEN/LFX25960SW.pdf I did notice that the Vance Baldwin folks aren't using the 5989JB0001A part anymore and there is a substitute p/n AEQ36756901 for the ice maker assembly kit.  Does this new p/n kit offer a design improvement over the 5989JB0001A?-   cfm56dash7

I am a service tech and see this problem often , whats happning is every time you open the left door when water has not frozen. the water splashes into the icemaker and freezes, the only fixto the prolem i have found is to replace icemaker, i have found if you try to thaw out you might get one tray of ice out. thanks

I have the same problem.

Ice in the gears.

Splash from opening and closing the door when liquid water is present seems to be the logical problem.

I had cleared the ice before, thoroughly dried the icemaker and reinstalled it. It worked until I adjusted the icemaker to make large cubes.

I will reinstall it and see how long it last. I will also complain to Sear about the short life of this device.

I have a problem with the same ice maker. I elected to remove and disassemble unit. What I found was ice build up under the arm mechanism. I thawed it and reinstalled the unit.

I suspect unfrozen water gets sloshed around and is able to enter the unit. If it happens again I'm going to try to find the entry points and seal them.

Pretty bad design flaw if you ask me. LG are you listening?

Same problem. Ice was jammed under the shutoff arm. After clearing, the fingers cycle but no water is input into the unit. Is the shutoff arm that sensitive? It is now in the upward position and will not lower.

LG 27950SB w/ ice maker 5989jb0001a same problem. I did figure out that the solenoid valve is not getting voltage from the ice maker at any point during the cycle, hence tray will not fill up w/ water. The water discharge pipe is heated to eliminate ice blockage. There are no obstructions in the water path other than the solenoid valves. The mechanical aspect cycles fine when induced by a reset. (i.e. push and hold cube size button) Also there appears to be a burnt spot on the circuit card top right corner under the transparent epoxi, just above the large cube LED.Perhaps this is a result of water sloshing out of the tray and down the backside of the circuit card? I plan to get a new kit to solve the problem. Did I miss something???
