I have exactly the same problem, have tried the factory reset detailled in the guide, but no good. Tried leaving it unplugged in a dark room to see if that helped the little Sony gremlins inside, but nothing.

I had a similar problem, but this required a sony representative to fix it. I suspect that the track system the CD elevator uses has come out of place. Unless you know the internal workings of the machine, I would not suggest attempting this by yourself. Needless to say, damage to yourself or the machine could result.

See if you are under warranty and contact sony direct. This would be fixed for free, if you are, but it may mean being without your machine for a week or two.

The unit is in protect mode because a problem was deteected in the final output stage of the amplifier. The pop in the speakers is a god indication that there is DC current in the output stage. This is not a good thing. This is a relatively common failure of all receivers and can easily be fixed by any shop that does audio repair. Expect a parts cost in teh $30-$40 range.

Hi!

This is what the manual says:

PROTECT"and "PUSH POWER" appear
alternately.

•A strong signal was input.
Press ?/1 to
turn off the power, leave the system
turned off for a while, then press ?/1
again to turn on the power.

•Check the speaker cables in case
"PROTECT" and "PUSH POWER"
appear alternately again after you turn
the system on.

Sir my sony stereo system showing "protect push power" how i troubleshoot the problem please replay fast

Protect Push Power on a Sony is telling you that you have an output short circuit and to turn off the player to prevent further damage.
Check the speaker cables for connection fault. If all is OK it means you have a blown STK Amplifier Chip. Will cost you about 20$ plus labor.

Protect and push power

That is the common symptom of the defected STK-IC in power amp.section that busted already or just a loose connection.First try to resolder the pins of STK-IC if its works! if not that is the time you replace it, so it works normal again. Hope it may helps you...
