I'm pretty sure the convergance chip is out. My problem is that I do not have the original remote. I have one made by Dynatron. I can't figure out which button is equilivant to Status, or ANT. Help please.

- Thanks. Right now I'm stuck in static mode. When I hit the magic focus it goes to static and then a black screen with one big cross hair. With this generic remote I can't get it to do anything else.
Almost any remote will work for this set if it is Hitachi--understand----if you have one of the two STK-392-120 CHIPS THAT THIS MODEL USES BAD--It will not adjust....
All of the Hitachi remotes will work but different ones use different buttons in the convergence mode--if the model is 43fwx20b it uses a Hitachi remote with the number CLU-4321UG... printed on the front of it.
If you get a different Hitachi remote let me know--I have a book from Hitachi that shows most of the remotes by number and photo and shows which buttons do what in convergence.
Let me know if you need to know how to replace the chips-----usually you can get a remote for this type of set pretty cheap on Ebay.....

- There is a simple reason you just have a cross on the screen when you try to engage the magic focus---whoever adjusted the Convergence the last time with a remote did not when done reset the sensors--set has at least 6 sensors inside the screen that do the magic focus---After convergence is done you while the convergence grid is still up push a button (on the remote) and the sensors reset--screen will blink with red, green, blue boxes etc for a couple of minutes and if ok --sometimes it will not reset--you are able to get the magic focus to work.
Understand---it is just a gimmic---it only adjusts convergence at about 16 points on the screen.
If you really want to see what you have--remove the entire front plastic grill under the screen in front of the set----two screws on either side in the back and it pulls off---behind it is an inspection plate--remove the plate and look carefully at the front of the circuit boards---towards the left front there is a tiny square switch---it usually has a tiny blue button on the front of it----WITH THE SET ON (BE CAREFUL!) USE SOMETHING NOT METAL---I like to use a pencil (the eraser end) and push gently on the blue button--this will call up the set's internal convergence grid---BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS NOT TO GET CLOSE TO ANYTHING WITH YOUR HANDS--LOTS OF HIGH VOLTAGES ARE PRESENT!
TAKE A LOOK AT THE GRID--IF RED AND OR BLUE ARE BADLY SKEWED--IT IS NOT GOING TO ADJUST----TO EXIT JUST PUSH THE SWITCH AGAIN
If the chips are bad (will not adjust or looks 3d) this is a very easy set to replace them on IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SOLDER AND CHECK JUST A FEW THINGS
You can buy a pair of the chips on EBAY for less than 13 dollars plus shipping---sometimes there will be a damaged or bad resistor around them that also needs to be located and replaced---I CAN TELL YOU WHAT AND WHERE TO LOOK FOR THIS.
CHECK IT OUT AND IF YOU WANT INSTRUCTIONS/HELP let me know---I have done hundreds of these sets---if you select my user name here you can look at all my SOLUTIONS here---there are a few recently for the exact same model and brand set you have---WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

The TV comes on and the red light next to the power button lights up then instantly turns back off...
The TV comes on and the red light next to the power button lights up then instantly turns back off and the red light goes out. Also inside the TV when it is turned on a tiny green light comes on when the TV is turned on and there is a clicking noise 3 or 4 times then another tiny green light flickers at the same time as the clicking noise and both green lights are on at the same time for a second then both green lights go out and the TV turns off. If the TV is left unplugged for a few days and then is plugged back in it tries to come back on and turns instantly off again. Then when turned on a day later (by power button or remote) it turns on and works for about a week then has the same problem with turning itself off again when it is turned on.
