I have a Dell inspiron 8600 with a 50 Gig Hard drive, which is almost full. I bought a maxtor one touch 4, 250 gig external drive to hols files I do not need instant access to. How do I move files and programs to the external drive and free up space on my laptop?

- I do not seem to have the "backup" option under system tools. I have windows xp, if that makes a difference.

just go to All programs<Accessories<System Tools<Backup. and choose the option you want.Once you have choosen what all you want to backup than you can choose the option for the place where you want to back it up.

- Well the instructions are for Xp.Incase this is not working than you would have to right click on the file that you want to transfer and than choose the option for Send To and select the external drive
