Question about Apple iPod nano

Ipod nano 3rd generation not recognised by computor

Sorry if im repeating myself but im at the end of my tether and just feel like ive wasted 150 quid.
purchased ipod nano 3rd generation, downloaded itunes (successfully) latest version 7. i have windows xp. then plugged in ipod, it started charging and was then supposed to show me a set up assistant to register my ipod and to sync with computor. no such look. when i plugged it in it shows a message usb device not recognised. i have tried it in all my usb ports front and back. i have also tried to reset my ipod (which i read about in other posts) but to no avail still shows the same message.
i have also gone onto the help on itunes site and run diagnostic test and it says no ipod found (all other tests successful) it then shows the reason is error message no FireWire (IEEE 1394) Host Controller Found.
i have tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall, i have tried to install and older versions as most seem to think that the newer version has problems with windows xp.

please please please help

Right-click on your desktop, then click the Advanced tab. Then you should see on the lower left where it says screen resolution. Set this to 1024x768. This will allow you to see the setup assistant.

Ipod nano 3rd generation wont connect with windows xp

I have the same ipod and had the same problem - I ignored itunes and the computer and went to "real player" and treated it like an mp3 player and in real player you pick your music you want to burn to a cd but go to "device" column and change the destination from burning to your internal cd burner to the external drive which is the ipod and it downloaded perfect! hope this helps

To reset your iPod:
  • 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  • 2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

It could be that the interface on the IPod is bad or the IPod cable is bad. I would try another cable to see if that fixes the problem.

Ipod nano 3rd generation and 1st generation nano

The first question I'm not sure. Is that the wireless network system that works with the wall outlets for power and networking?

The answer to the second question is No. You can only transfer playlists from ITunes into the IPod. Make sure your playlists are created in ITues before transferring.

for hayzlbe: connect it to its AC charger when you're connecting to a computer. n make sure you have an USB 2 port

for Teeen: if you have an hard drive ipod, just give it a shake/shock on your palm. you might get lucky n it might start working again. cuz it worked for me once after i dropped it on the hard cement floor from 2 meters height.

You can only sync an ipod with itunes software, it doesn't come with the ipod though.

Go here:

On the right hand side it says itunes 7 Download now. That's the software you need to use with an ipod.
