You can't get the drive to come out or you load the drive and nothing is seen on your PC? More info would help.

Thanks

My HP notebook does not play DVD's.

Does it play CDs perfectly fine ?
Did you check with other good (branded) DVDs ?
If possible, remove this dvd-drive, connect it with another laptop, and check.

If problem started after you installed anything, try undoing it through System Restore (All Programs - Accessories - System Restore).

Boot the computer in safe mode (tap F1 or F11, select Safe Mode), log in as Administrator.
Check if it reads DVDs here or not.
Create a new user account (Control Panel - User Accounts). Restart computer normally, and log in using this new account. Now check if DVDs work or not.

If still not working, backup your important data (write on blank CDs, or copy in USB pen drives), and then format the hard drive. (Restart the computer, and tap F10 to initiate recovery from hard drive partition.)

You may also use the Recovery Disk you got with this notebook. (Insert disk 1 in the drive, and restart the computer, and just follow the instructions).

If still no progress, chances are the DVD-drive lens has gone for a toss. Buy a new dvd-drive.

Hope this solution helps you.

The laser may be bad, if your warranty is over go to ebay and find one then put it in.

My DVD drive in ACER Aspire 4720 not reading burnt DVDs and CDs

well look for cds that are thicker and sturdier. some low cost CDRs are too thin and/or soft that they cant handle the heat generated by the cd drive.

Will not read or burn dvd's

dear friend

this is common probs for notebook dvdrws

they lack quality (all brands)

after sometime drives stops writing dvds, then reading them

after sometime, writing cds and eventually reading cds

in 5-6% cases drives stops to read cds first

sorry friend you have to replace the drive

and if it is in warranty

go for rma

thanks

Acer aspire 2930 DVD player only opens some dvds

Try Media player classic under k-lite codec pack. Then open video files on the dvd. If it doesn't help try another codec player. If nothing helps could it be that dvd player is not capable of multilayer dvd reading.

Is this drive new, or new to you and has it worked before on your system with DVD's. Has your System been reloaded lately or been recovered from a System Crash? What Operating system is on your computer? Are the DVD's Blank, Movies or Software???
The drive is in your computer? What Brand? any Idea?
How long since you put a cleaning disc through the Drive?
Answer these Questions and maybe we can help... C

Problem with disc drive

You didn?t mention the type of disk (something you burned or bought) or the physical condition of the disks (brand new, some scratches or lots) but if they?re commercial CDs or DVDs and you can play them in another laptop or player you should be able to play them in your laptop consistently. About the only thing I would recommend doing to a new laptop drive still in warranty would be to clean the drive using a commercial CD cleaning disk. If you still have trouble reading commercial CDs that play in other devices I would contact the manufacturer?s technical support for repair.
