Problem with Nintendo DS Lite Console

Nintendo DS Lite won't turn on.

I accidentally dropped my DS on the floor and now it won't turn on.  It charges fine but nothing happens when turned on.  Anything I can do?  Thanks.

      I TOTALLY AGREE TO THE ABoVE today i was trin cheat codes or i wanted to but it wouldnt work i turned it on it turned green as norman then the screen flashed and my ds turnes off

    • It seems to charge, when I plug in the charger the orange light comes on. After a certain amount of time the orange light will go off, and if I unplug the charger and plug it back in, the orange light will come on and soon after go off again. So I think the battery is charging just fine, the darn thing just won't come on.



      I haven't dropped it, or got it wet, or anything like that. It worked, then (in the middle of me playing Phantom Hourglass, might I add) it just stopped, and never worked again.

      The corner of my DS came off (were the Charger lights are) because i Dropped it on the floor, Then i charged it and when I turned it back on it flicked white light for a milly second and then goes straight back off !

    • I was playing my DS the other nite,I went on the Diaond GTS and Wifi and it jsut turned of,It charges fine but won't turn on,and the moments it did only like 20 seconds,and I switched my batteries and tested my brothers batteries and my DS still didn't come on...Of course it was in a bag that got soakked with water but before I went onto Wifi it worked like a charm(besides the R button..matter of fact i fixed that button(unjammed it) right before my DS froze)

    • I also had a problem, i was playing it one moment, put it on the floor to charge for 5 minutes, i came back to play pokemon diamond and it was fine, i played diamond for 1 minute tried to turn it off, but the on/off swich moved but wouldnt turn off or on and didnt flick back. I think theres some sort of spring missing that opperates the nintendo DS lite.

    • Hey I got the same problem my DS would shut down at a specific game part and then I dropped it on the the floor like you did then it's exactly like you said. I got a new one and giving the broken one to my sister but I desparatly want it fixed so we can play together!

Hi. Same thing happenedto my son's. Also, when I shook it, I could hear a slight rattle inside as if a small piece had broken off. I took it apart and found that a small surface mount inductor had come off (it was right by the on/off switch I believe). I was able to get it soldered back on and added some glue for mechanical strength (since my solder wasn't as good as original). This worked a while but it came off again and I could never get it to stick and function again. Just shorting the terminals with wire didn't work, it needs at least some 'L' impedance. So, I tried making my own. I took a very small wire-wrap wire I had from my old college days, and wound it around a paperclip about 10times, solder the ends on, and then removed the clip. (think of tiny spool of wire with each end connected to solder pads). Believe or not, it worked and has been fine ever since. Apperently the tolerance for this circuit is pretty loose. FWIW.

Good luck. A fun project either way before giving up.

Check to see if there is a little black cube with metal sides soldered to the motherboard just below the on/off switch. my ds was dropped and wouldnt turn on apart from the orange charging light. i shook it before opening it up and it rattled. upon opening it i was very lucky to find the broken part as it is very small. no bigger than this font but in cube shape. anyway all i did was to solder it back in place and hey presto it worked.

hi,i had the same problem.my daughters would not turn on but charges,when i shake it i can hear a small rattle.As the ds lite was outside of the warranty i decided to open it up carefully.I found a small black piece(same size of the letter o,this font).it was to tricky to glue back in,so I used a sharp knife to dig a groove on the surface (situated behind the power switch) sharpened the stylus to fit into the groove and slide the power on using the stylus hey presto it works again........

If your DS wont turn on it mite of had a battery falure so try bying a new Battery

leave it reast for about 2 days and tap it 2 times at the top and the bottom itlle worck trust me if it doesnt tell me ok bro cya.

this could be a very serious problem. its possible that when you dropped it that a part of the battery was punctured or dented. if you look in the front of every single game instruction booklet, you will see a warning saying... WARNING: BATTERY LEAKAGE. it is very possible that your battery started to leak when you dropped it. the chemicals inside the battery can damage the internal workings of your ds. very important: NEVER EVER EVER EVER TOUCH ANYTHING THAT WOULD DRIP OUT OF YOUR DS!!!!!!!!! IT IS MOST LIKELY THE CHEMICALS FROM THE BATTERY AND CAN POISON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if the battery leaked, i'm so sorry but your ds will probably never work the same way again.

The same thing happened to me sadly )': but..... you can take a cell phone charger and it will work after about 2 hours i hope your daughter doesnt stay on to long

yeah, I bought my brother a ds for his birthday, which he dropped just two weeks later *headsmack*... and yeah same problem.

The issue is if you open the ds up yourself warranty is voided (and you need to get a triwing screwdriver), so I didn't really want to do this.

I dunno, bit dissapointed with the hardware this time round, i had never had any issue with any Nintendo console (other than having to blow nes cartridges on occasion) - Yet this time round both the ds's have broken (my R button has ceased to function)

i would go to the palce and try to return it if you have a promblem because every nintento has a warranty so you should be able to get a new one.
