I bought a power shot a 75 about 2 years ago , the problem i ve got is that i can see all the menu functions, but looking through the screen i can not view what i am about to shoot the screen is black even when i replace the batteries

When I turn it on, it will show me violet lines and sometimes the display will turn black. Even, it takes a picture it will be violet lines everywhere. Sometimes, it comes back, and if it takes the picture, it is perfectly fine on the LCD. But, it is almost always violet lines. I don't know what to do.

my A75 is 3 1/2 yrs old. lately, the LCD is like a bad TV picture: grey/black with horiz'l lines blinking. take a picture and you get a grey or violet screen (no pic). It did this, then worked mostly OK last weekend (only 3 out of 15 shots were bad) and now, same problem! I tried replacing the batteries, running thru the set-up menu - nothing has fixed it.

My powershot 75 is 3 1/2 yrs old and just started the same distortion w/ the LCD.

Here's the solution: Go to Canon's website and follow instructions (there's a ph. no. you can call) to get a service order drawn up. They will email you a shipping label and tell you how to pack it, etc. If it is your CCD image sensor (most likely) they'll repair it - FOR FREE!!!

They received my camera on 3/11 and I got it back today, 3/14!!!

All my hats go off to Canon for recognizing this issue and taking full responsibility. The speed with which they serviced it just astounds me. If every company operated like this, there would be no customer complaints. I've always liked their products, now I have another very good reason to continue to buy Canon!!

Check with Canon. I had the same problem with my S1 IS. Got on the Canon website, had to work through several layers, but found there was a recall on my camera. Contacted Canon they went through diagnostics over the phone confirmed serial number and emailed me a Return Authorization. Camera sent out and back in less than 2 weeks, Works Great.

Oh. good. its not fault of LCD. your CCD has fault.
according to your problem you wont get photos also recorded in your camera i think.

but if you are able to use a view finder and take photos means its not a costly fault.

else means try this.
connect it to your TV usng AV cord. if you are able to see pictures means there is some fault with the connections inside for LCD from CCD.

No display powershot a75

Did you get a solution to your problem? I am experiencing the exact same thing with my A75. Still takes pictures and displays them for the 2 second preview, then back to black. And they download fine, too. But I get the same black screen in every mode except stitch assist and movie mode. Thanks.

Canon PowerShot A75

If you get a blank screen and the camera is on,there are two ribbons to the LCD one (the smaller one) is power to the screen. the larger ribbon is the data lines. If the camera is on the problem is a loose connection of one or both of the ribbons. Hope this helps Jerry

LCD monitor

Sounds like your backlight may be out, unless you're still able to see a faint image when the LCD is "black"...?

If you can still see a faint image of what your camera is pointed at, I would assume your LCD is bad. In which case you could purchase a new one on for ~$60 or have them do it for you for ~$85.
