My First RAM Upgrade-Any Tips

Greetings,
I am about to do my first RAM upgrade. I am definitely not a computer whiz so just recently I learnt there are at least 3 types of RAM.
My type is DDR. I have an Acer Aspire with a Celeron D Intel processor (somehow is 2.8 GHz which I have heard is good), Ati graphics but only 256MB of RAM. I bought a generic brand of RAM today (1GB) but I don't know whether it is suited totally or not. I ran the cpuz.exe program from the internet and found the RAM speed is 200MHz. The RAM I bought today was 400MHz and my friend said it would run at the lower speed of 200MHz.

When I take the cover off my computer, is there anything special I should do or avoid? The cpuz.exe program seemed to suggest the RAM was not dualchannel and that there were only 2 slots for the RAM sticks.

Hope you can help,
Thanks a lot,
Mark

I was wondering if you can tell me what are the ram upgrade compatible for the PC-MC24 SHARP NOTEBOOK. I am trying to upgrade it.

Make sure you remove the battery before removing or inserting the ram :)

No worries about it not being dual channel as most laptop arent.

DDr (double data rate) ram runs at 200MHz but is actually 400 one the double data rate is applied so they are one and the same :)

I hope its a sodimm stick of ram that you bought? They are about 3i inches long rather than 6 like desktop ram?

Good day. I just would like to inquire if the Palit 8400GS 512MB/DDR2 video card that I recently purchased is really compatible with the Elite Group P4M900T-M2 (REV:1.0) motherboard. I also upgraded...

Hi,

Yes, Palit 8400GS 512Mb/DDR2 video card is compatible. It was a great decision you've made that is to upgrade the RAM (memory) as well from 1Gb to 1.5Gb. Your P4M900T-M Motherboard is capable of handling upto 4Gb. You might want to consider to upgrade its memory to 2Gb, 3Gb, or to its full capacity, 4Gb. Definitely, it will greatly affect your computer's performance as you are distributing its resources (video, motherboard, memory, etc) to perform individually as it was designed for.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply for further assistance. Good Luck!

Can you upgrade this pc to vindow vista or window7

Hello

Yes, this computer's Operating system can definitely be upgraded to either windows vista, or Windows7. Firstly you wil need to remember that you will have to upgrade the ram module to at leas 1GB. 2GB being the maximum for this computer.

Also, i would rather load the 32bit version of the operating system than the 64bit.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further assistance.

Kind regards
Andrea

I want to upgrade the ram where do I insert the sodimms?

Greetings!
Hello, how are you?
Regarding your problem, first you have to consider the typ of RAM you have installed in your laptop/Computer and the hardware support you have in your laptop/computer. But the simple way to upgrade your RAM is you have to find a computer shop in your area or contact your supplier then bring your laptop/computer to them then let them examine your laptop/computer hardware specification to know what type of RAM you are going to install and the size it supports particularly the size of your new RAM that your laptop/computer can support. In that way, you can save time and money and assures that you have successfully upgrade your RAM.

Thanks

System speed

Your CPU speed depends on your front side bus speed. Overclock is an option but never recommended. The upgrading ram is cheapest and most noticable upgrade you can do. If your do want to upgrade your computer i would recommend upgrading ram. Remember any computer with a 32-bit processor can only reconize 4 gig's of ram.

Ram upgrade problems

When you installed the new upgrade and it was giving you errors it probably damaged or moved some files on the computer. Sorry to say but the easiest fix is going to be re-installing windows. Other than that it would require editing the registry and that is not easy and requires some knowlege

Is it possible to upgrade my processor?

well first off it depends on what kind of mother board you have. if its an older board it might not handle an upgrade. the labur required to change a cpu or proseser is alot. memory is usulay fairly easy thare is normaly a panel underneith the laptop for the ram plate. but if you are not good at this sort of thin i recomend getting it profesinoly.

My First RAM Upgrade-Any Tips

Ah you have found out one of the great things about confusing naming standards. Often times, 200Mhz memory is called 400Mhz if it is DDR because DDR stands for "Double Data Rate".

It still operates at 200Mhz speed, but since it doubles the data it is sometimes refered to (wrongly) as 400Mhz.

On the upside, all DDR-I ram is backwards compatible. So there should be no problems. However sometimes different memory sticks dont play well together.

What I would do is this:

1) Shutdown computer, UNPLUG computer - wait 5 minutes
2) Open computer
3) Remove old Ram stick and replace with the new stick
4) Replace cover, plug in and boot to windows.

If everything works fine, then do step 1-2 again, but this time add the old stick you removed before, and place it in the unused slot.

Again check that the computer functions properly. If it does not, remove the old stick.
