Toshiba 57H81 Rear Projection HDTV

I called my cable company and asked to get a HD cable box and they asked me if I needed an HDMI or DVI cable with that and it would say it on the back of the tv. Well I have looked and it does not say either. Can I get HD cable channels on this tv?

Re: Toshiba 57H81 Rear Projection HDTV

Your cable company should be able to supply an HD settop box that has component video output for HD. I have one from Cablevison. It is a Scientific Atlanta (SA) 4200HD.

The DVI cable was the early HDMI cable . all later sets have the HDMI port . when you had it hooked to a DVI source did you select that port with the remote ? if it did not function the port may be damaged . as to picture it should give you a HD quality picture that your cable box is broadcasting .

Toshiba 50HDX82 50 in. Rear Projection Television-HDMI to my TV?

You have to buy one converter box. Your TV does not accept or process HDMI signals.

Do i need hd cables for an hdtv?

If you want to watch some content in HD you will either need to connect your TV to the computer using a VGA or DVI cable, or connect using HDMI(picture + sound transfer) cable to the computer/DVD... You can connect your TV also using Cinch or Scart cables but you will not have HD resolution. Hope this helps!

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Medallion TV. The only input for HD is DTV (no DVI or HDMI inputs). Is there a converter box from HDMI to DTV that will allow for 1080i resolution?

From looking at the back panel of the TV, the DTV input can be configured as a component video. The M-Link/DVI-HD port is also a DVI with HDCP port and maximum signal handled is 1080i. The M-Link should work with an HDMI to DVI cable or adapter. For this to work, the source must not be a computer or another device using the default computer video output (computers give RGB output). The DTV port would need an HDMI to Component video converter. See this page for some examples: . The first one in the list (for Netflix and Boxee among others) will give 1080i out if the source is set correctly.

Most DVI-HDMI cables are single link. I've seen some examples where DVI-I (single link) and DVI-D (dual link) cables are not interchangeable. If you have video problems, check your cable. An HDMI to DVI adapters will let you run an HDMI cable up to the TV and then converter at the TV as a separate connection.

I hope this helps.

Switching from HD to Standard screen gets a pinkish/purplish tint in SD only

It is the cable box. Using the HDMI or DVI output on cable boxes is a bad proposition; for some reason the cable box makers have not figured out how to make the HDMI/DVI output work consistently, something that rarely happens with satellite boxes. Use the component output. You will probably not be able to see a difference in picture quality and your problem will disappear. If you liked this solution, please be sure to rate it. Thanks!
