Hi, I just received a TomTom One for Christmas and when I turn it on there's a blank screen. If I press the reset button, all is well. Why should I have to press the reset button each time? What am I doing wrong?

Try to restore the firmware first. If that fails, there may be a motherboard issue. There is a third party tomtom Repair service that will replace the logic board and a tomtom repair guide if you want to replace it yourself, the screen is available on ebay.
There is a small hole on the tomtom device base. Inside it there is a reset button.
Press it and turn device on.
Try to turn it on while connected to the electricity, if it is a battery problem it should work
If it doesn't work I suggest you to bring it to a tomtom support center.
If that does not work use the hard reset underneath the tom tom with a paper-clip to re-set your device. press the reset whilst switching on the TOMTOM but don't press too hard and let go once you see the screen coming on.
To only way you can fix it is taking apart the Tom Tom, checking if the flat ribbon cable and connector to the screen are well in place and eventually replace the display ($80 on Ebay). Unfortunately this will invalidate the guaranty, and you risk to damage your GPS if you are not a really experienced DIYer. Tom Tom offer one year full guaranty on all their receivers.
