MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I replaced the magenta ink tank and got the message that the cartridge was no recognized so bought another new one, CANON OEM, and it still says U043 The following ink tank cannot be recognized I cannot scan either with it locked up like this and the stop/reset button does nothing when I hold it down for several seconds. HELP :( Canon MP600. Every time I replace an ink tank I get the message "ink tank cannot be rcognized." Usually after several tries it is resolved. However, I recently replaced the Cyan ink tank and the printer will not recognize it under any circumstances. I cannot get out of this error message. My Canon MP600 (less than a year since purchase) is now out of service.

I'm having the same error - printer is maybe 6 months old and haven't gone through 1 set of ink cartridges yet. The cyan usually doesn't recognize, but after 5 or 10 tries it works. Tonight I did about 25 tries with unrecognized ink It'd be nice to at least print in black for now, but can't even do that - seems like it won't let you print unless you have all ink tanks recognized.

I have the same problem with the cyan cartridge and can't print. I was able to get it started after 10-20 tries before but now nothing..when I put the old cartridge in it won't print because its empty. I give up...never had this problem with my HP..should have stayed with that brand!!

I replaced the 3 colour cartridges but a message came up that the magenta cartridge was not recognised. I bought another magenta cartridge and put that in but it still comes up with the same message. It is very annoying because I cannot use the machine at all not even to print letters in black.

Same problem. I realize I need black ink, but WTF, I can't even scan now.

my mp600 printer will not recognise the cyan ink tank - it is a proper cannon ink tank and I've replaced it several times. Unfortunately the printer is locked because it won't recognise the tank - how can I unlock it?

Same problem! Just started doing this for no reason!

I've tried all of the suggested fixes and none work. I've just spent GBP 70 on OEM ink tanks and now the printer is dead. I'm REALLY HACKED OFF with this !

They sell these all-singing printers for next to no money but then they've got you by the balls with the cost of ink.

I've been using none-OEM tanks off ebay and switching the chips but beware if you're doing this make sure you don't accidentally put a cyan chip on a yelo tank as it will screw over the printer and you will get all sorts of weird messages such as you have installed two tanks of the same colour ! This is why I went back to OEM tanks but now after spending 70 freakin' quid I'm still stuffed ! NOT HAPPY.

I came to the same solution as bstrong, and thus far it seems to be successful. I am going to look into ink refill kits as I am not under warantee protections and I don't want to go through this hassle or the expense again of faulty microchips...anyone have any advice on where to find these kits? Do email canon though, because they will send you a complimentary cartridge for your inconvenience. Don't pay for technical support through canon as you are likely to accumulate related expenses. . .

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

had same problem and noticed the plastic post holding down the chip seemed to stick out further than old empty cartridge. I took a soldering iron and flattened/melted the excess plastic till almost flush with top of chip. Put in the cartridge and did NOT get the 1660 error. SUCCESS!!

Alarm light is lit -

Ok my printer is giving me the U140 message saying that ink tank cannot be recognized. The new ink tank is Cannon (not a off brand or refill). i think it is a problem with the chip reader port inside the printer not the ink tank chip. I feel this way because if you switch around the yellow and black 8 tanks, the printer accepts them without error.. soo if it was the ink cartridge i could be able to swap the black with the magenta and it should read it.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

Error U043 - Ink Tank Cannot be recognized

Try to open and close the main cover a bit, ... ink recognition will start and may solve the probleme ...
... otherwise remove the cartridge and clean the chip contacts e.g. with spirit
Maybe also pressing the stop/reset-button for >10s will also help to continue printing, but in this case the fill level of the cartridge will no longer be shown

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I have a canon mp510 pixma same message U043 and a u150 fault.
I cant see any chip to replace and have replaced my original cartridges with a non branded cheaper type, this might be why. Does this make a difference or is this the same problem occurring with replacement canon cartridges as well.

Dont want to buy genuine ones if its not going to make any difference.

Anyone who can help me would be appreciated

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the u043 problem on the blue cartridge on my mp830.

I was using non-original replacement inks but re-using the chips from the originals - replacing the blue cartridge would cause it randomly work but i then noticed the chip holder was not centred so I realigned it and hey presto! the problem was solved first time.
