The recorder will not record on a brand new panasonic disc but will continue to record on my older disc. The panasonic dealer insists there is nothing wrong with the disc.Went into 'disc management' on the recorder and found the 'disc protection' ON. This is not the case with my older disc as this says 'disc protection' OFF. Is there a way of removing the disc protection ON from the new disc?

Yes,
In the Disc Management options you should have the option to change whether disc protection is on or off.

Also, if you have one of the double-sided discs - they look like large computer floppy discs and can be inserted either way up into the machine - some of these have a "write protect" tab just like a floppy disc. Check to see if yours has one and whether it is set in the protect position.

Some new dvds record right through, others from the packet come to 'NO RECORDING POSSIBLE' at some stage - is this to be expected?

I've occasionally found that some brand new DVD-Rs are rejected by Pana recorders, and have put this down to manufacturing faults on the discs. It's usually not worth taking them back when one disc of a pack of 100 is faulty.

All I can recommend is that you use a renowned brand, such as TDK, Maxell, etc to reduce fail rates.

I just bought a new spindle of DVD+R (Sony) and when I tried to burn a movie from TV/cable on one, it said that I couldn't record on this disc. I thought the disc was bad so I exchanged it with another...

Are you using a stand alone dvdr(not hooked to a computer)? If so some dvd-recorders(mostly older models) May only record either dvd-r or dvd+r. They are two different formats that for all intense and purposes do the same thing. If its an older DVD recorder there may be another problem and that is the recording speed. Check the previous disc that have recorded ok and see what the recording speed was. It will look something like... 2.4X, 4X, 8X. Brand could make a difference but my gut feeling is its the recording speed. Check you owners manual it should list brand name disc as well as the recording speeds to use.

DVD recorder not recording any more

I have found that you get what you pay for in electronics. I bouoght a Cyber Home recorder, it lasted about 15 months before it went out.
I had another off brand ( don't remember name) that also didn't last. I have an older, I think it's a Panasonic, at least 5-6 years old. It won't reord on DVD+R, only on DVD/RW discs.
So, first I say you bought ****.
Buy name brand only it lasts longer.
Second, these things don't last to long.
I have a player only that is 5 + years old that still plays movies.
I haven't used the Panasonic for about a year. I do use it to PLAY movies still.

Disc inserted for recording, "no disc"?

Have you tried other discs? Are the ones you are trying to use supported by the recorder? If so, see if a DVD burner in a PC will recognize the discs. You may want to try a different brand as well in the recorder.

Panasonic DMRES20D wont record

I had a similar problem just over a week ago. Buying brand new DVD-R discs seems to solve the problem but I have had to throw one disc away.

The Panasonics are very picky about the media ie brand and quality of the DVD blank. Try a different brand and see if that helps.
