Check that you are using the "American English" keyboard mapping.

CANT GET £ SIGN, AND " HAS SWAPPED WITH @ 1, HOLD THE SHIFT KEY DOWN 2, PRESS THE "WINDOWS LOGO" AND "ALT" BUTTONS TOGETHER ON THE LEFT HAND OF THE SPACE BAR ONLY.THE RIGHT HAND ONES WILL NOT WORK 3, YOU MAY HAVE TO USE THE MOUSE TO CLICK ON THE PAGE. 4, YOU WILL NOW HAVE THE "£" BACK & THE @ OR"IN THE CORRECT PLACE.
I am assuming your keyboard is set to English USA. Go into control
panel, regional settings and make sure everything there is set to UK
but then also open Word, up to Tools on menu bar, down to language and
check that it is English UK there also and set by default. If this does
not work you will have to insert it from character map and add it to
autocorrect feature.
