Download the driver from the manufacturers website. Make sure that your Drive supports the discs that your trying to read. IE DVD R+, R-, RW+, RW-, CDR DL, and so on. f it does not have the examples then it does not work with those formats. Newer drives usually supports all formats with the exception of Maybe HD & Blueray

Can't set HP LaserJet Pro 400 as default printer

I recently had a troubleshooting appointment for an hp printer that could not be set as the default printer. When I tried to make it the default, a message box came up saying "operation could not be completed error (0x00000709)". Other than that, it seemed to work fine. I even removed all the printer software through "Programs And Features"in the Windows control panel followed up by a Windows system registry scan. I then performed a clean install of the hp printer still no joy.
Next, I began to research the "operation could not be completed error (0x00000709)" error message on the internet. I came across a variety of solutions, which I tried in succession with no luck. I finally discovered the one that worked. It was a simple fix to the Windows system registry. This is what I did to solve the annoying little problem:
I. Type "regedit" followed by the enter key in the "search program and files" text box in the pop up menu that appears after clicking the Windows"start button" in the lower left hand corner of the Windows desktop screen.
II. Next, click "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" in the left hand pane of the Windows registry editor.
III. Then click "Software" followed by "Microsoft" and next "Windows NT".
IV. While under the "Windows NT" entry, click "CurrentVersion" and then "Windows".
V. Now, one of the entries you should see in the right hand pane is"Device". If the value for "Device" as noted under the "Data" area is anything other than the printer you are using, then highlight "Device" in the right hand pane with the mouse and press the delete key to remove it.
VI. Restart the computer so it starts with the altered Windows system registry.
After the Windows desktop appears again, you should be able to go into the"Printers" area and designate your printer as the default without receiving the "operation could not be completed error (0x00000709)" message.
Being able to designate the default printer can save you a fair amount of work over the long run. This is because you won't have to specify your destination printer in the printer dialog box - it is already selected since it's been set as the default.

Hang up internet explorer not responding

If you use Internet Explorer you may experience issues where the browser freezes, hangs up and stops responding.

Although many things can cause the browser to stop responding, if the problem persists there are a few troubleshooting techniques that you can use to fix the problem.

Troubleshooting Internet Explorer may require you to perform a few steps or several, depending on the cause of the problem.

Click "Start," choose "All Programs" and click on the "Windows Update" option.

A new window will appear.

Click the "Check for updates" link on the left side of the window.

Windows will connect to the internet and search for updates for your system.

Click the "Install updates" button on the right side of the window.

Windows will automatically download and install any updates it finds.

Restart your computer, if prompted.

Delete Temporary Internet Files

Click "Start" and select "Control Panel."

Click the "Network and Internet" selection then click on "Internet Options."

The Internet Properties dialog box will appear.

Click the "Delete" button beneath the "Browsing history" section.

A new window will appear.

Place a check-mark next to "Temporary Internet files" and click "Delete."

Allow the computer to delete the temporary internet files then close the Internet Properties dialog box.

Remove Problematic Add Ons

Click "Start" and enter "Internet Explorer" into the Windows search bar.

Click on "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" when it appears in the list.

Internet Explorer will launch with no add-ons running.

Click "Tools" on the right side of the browser and select "Manage Add ons."

A pop up window will appear.

Click on "Toolbars and Extensions" beneath the "Add on Types" section on the left side of the window.

A list of add ons will appear on the right side of the window.

Scroll through the list of installed add-ons and locate third party add ons that you've recently installed.

Note that you can look at the "File date" for a date of when you installed the add on.

Look for add ons that you installed at approximately the same time you began experiencing issues with Internet Explorer not responding.

Click on any suspected problematic add-ons and click the "Disable" button at the bottom of the window. Close "Internet Explorer (No Add ons)" and restart the browser normally.

Verify that disabling the add-on fixes the problem.

If not, repeat this section and disable another recently installed add on until you fix the problem.

Hope this helps.

I have a IBM ThinkPad Type 2384 with Window XP. It was working fine until my kid went on Facebook & tried to purchase Facebook credits. The Computer froze while it was Downloding. I tried everything to...

Only the paid service makes calls it is not wise to publish your number on the open net. Aside from that facebook had not much to do with the Windows crash. Although you had little choice after it locked up to do a hard shut down, you always take the chance of corrupting your drive. If you have one place the Windows factory CD into the tray and choice the option for Repair Windows. If not it should have the restore within the hard drive. To access this feature reboot the pc when u see the IBM splash screen "may say Thinkpad" This would be the 1st thing that pops up when u hit the power button. When u see this tap the F11 key on your keyboard. Follow the directions and again you would want to do the repair. This will replace the missing files Windows is looking for.
