I'm trying to hook up the WRT54G wireless router to my laptop and it doesn't work! Help!

The router is hooked up but when I go to Network Connections, it shows WLAN as not available.

The model # is A535. It's probably 3 years old.I don't know how to find the setting for my router. So I haven't checked that. I definitely went to network connections and tried to enable it but didn't work.

If you go into the setting on your router you need to enable wireless broadcast as it sounds like its not broadcasting.

Is the wireless adapter enabled in network connections? Newer laptops with built in adapters have a button abve keyboard to switch it on and off.

What is the model number of your laptop?

To get into yout router u need to type in an andress like "192.168.0.1" whilst connected by cable. the exact address varies depending on router make.

Are u saying that the wlan adapter is working but just not picking up any wireless signals?

See: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54G on the side it will ask you for information, then you can down load the system. It also gives you step by stem setup instructions.

What type of encryption are you using for your router. I am hooking up my son's PS3 to the wireless. I'm also a computer, network, and server technician. I may be able to help.

Configure Modem Echolife HG520s With WRT54G OR WRE54G

Not sure if I understand properly but your router should have a WAN port or an "Internet" port

your modem should be connected to it and your PC should be on any of the LAN port

Trying to hook up my daughters macbook to our linksys wireless network

Make sure your wireless network has the security settings "disabled" while you try to connect your MacBook. You can "enable" them later after you get it to work. It should be as simple as that.

All you need to do is connect the modem to the router. From the router, you will want a computer connected to it so you can configure your wireless network.

Laptop could not detect linksys on second day

Jatman,

Couple of things you can try here:

1) Connect your laptop (or another computer if possible) to the router using a network cable. You should then be able to see your configuration info. Make sure that the computer you are using to connect (wired) to the router is set up to use DHCP. Once in there, depending on what you find, you might be able to fix it yourself.

2) Factory reset the router and go through the setup options as if it were brand new.

Hope this helps.
