Re: how to upgrade memory

The NEC Versa m500e has 2 memory slots. Each slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 512MB per slot.

I'm not sure where the memory is located on the Versa, but normally in the middle on the bottom of the laptop there is a memory slot. on some units the memory is located under the keyboard, so you have to remove this first to change the memory.

Hope this helps

Hmmm, something does not appear correct. The Crucial memory selector indicates that the Versa Premium will hold 2 256 MB DIMM for a total of 512 MB.

When i power on my nec versa e600 the laptop make several long peeps..what can i do...

If you are hearing 3 beeps then you have a faulty or loose memory chip.

Turn the laptop off, remove the power cord and the battery. Turn the laptop upsidedown and look for a panel with a couple of philips screws. Unscrew these screws and access the RAM (memory) bay.

Unclip the memory and clean the brass contacts and the slots.
If there is more than 1 memory module put them back one at a time and try turn the laptop on to see if it boots.

If there is less or more than 3 beeps please let me know how many there are as the length and how many beeps gives us an indication of what the problem is.
Listen carefully at the beeps and try your best to describe them.

My NEC Versa M440 laptop could not switch on. There is sign of power present but just couldn't switch on. Pls help. Thanks.Lai

On the underside of the laptop undo 3 screws to remove the battery cover. Take the battery out for a couple of minutes, then refit. The laptop should restart. I have this problem periodically with mine.

Upgrade NEC Versa VX

You can insert the Windows XP CD while logged on Win 98 and run a test from the CD. Obviously you need a larger Hard Disk and at least 126 MB RAM to bring XP to a usable speed. You can look for RAM upgrade options in this page.

I would like to upgrade/add more ram, could you tell what is the

Is this an old PII machine? If it is, don't waste you money with memory and operating system. You can buy a used XP P4 or Centrino laptop for what you would spend upgrading what you have.

Upgrade a NEC

What are you wanting to upgrade? The ram or the operating system?

Your laptop can take upto 256mb of ram. Its the old pc66 sdram that it takes. A 128mb stick would certainly make a big differance on top of the 64 you already have.

Chances are that you have a lot of progs set to start on startup. Turning off some of these will make a big improvement.

heres how to do it in win95

hope that helps :)

3 beeps is the Beep code for "Base 64KB RAM Failure". Lets hope that you are lucky and the problem is your memory. If you have two memory sticks in the computer, then try to take one of them out. Try different combinations such as swapping between the memory slots that are available. If you still getting the same error code, then your motherboard is shot.
