IPod Classic 3rd party manager

Is there a 3rd party music manager that works with ipod Classic? If not yet, when can we expect to have one available?
It appears that with iTunes I cannot keep music on my iPod unless I have a copy on my computer hard drive. If I delete the song from my hard drive it will be automatically deleted from my iPod? I do not want to keep any music on my hard drive, but want to keep it all on my iPod. How can I solve this problem?
Thanks and good luck.

Thanks for your help. I'll try these programs. Happy New Year!

MediaMonkey does not seem to work with the iPos Classic, which apparently has built-in software enhancements by Apple designed to prevent access by 3rd-party software. I cannot see any of the content of my iPod in the MediaMonkey window. Yamipod does seem to acces the Classic and shows its content, but I have not figured out how to move songs back-and-forth between the Classic and the hard drive using Yamipod. It does seems to allow me to delete songs from the iPod. But the "synchronizing" feature seems to require typing in a "location" which is something other than the drive and folder where the songs are kept. Thanks again.

Upgrade your iTunes version (is your error message your iPod is not elligible for the requested build?). Restoring it with the latest iTunes will download the right firmware and the message will disappear. If it doesn't work with the latest itunes, you may have a broken logic board. If you're out of warranty, somebody has to open the iPod classic and replace the logic board. The part is available on ebay. Here's a guide on how to disassemble an iPod classic. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there are third party iPod Repair Services.

Sharing the music on one ipod classic on to another

I also had this problem. Bought a classic ipod and I wanted to transfer music and movies from my ipod 3rd gen. You would think that it could be done from the itunes - but no! You can't take stuff from the ipod and put it back onto your computer. So I eventually downloaded a software application called COPYGEAR. I found it on google and it was about the 8th application I downloaded and it worked. You only get a trial version for free but I only needed to use it the once. I hope this works for you.

Hooking up New IPOD Classic Crashes computer

Try going into the settings screen on the iPod and resetting all settings. If that doesn't work you may be able to use one of the many 3rd party tools available to repair the corrupted data. You may also want to try connecting it to a different computer and running itunes on it there.

Cheers
