The latch won't engage, so the door won't close. Obviously, this means the machine won't operate. We have removed the racks, checked the hinges to see if anything is lodged there and looked to see if anything is in the unit preventing the door from closing. Could the latch be broken? If so, what is involved in the repair?

SOURCE: Opened door during cycle, latch now stuck in closed position, can't re-close

twist a paperclip around some pliers so you have a circle opening. then hook the paperclip around the latch and pull outward with the pliers. once the latch is facing outwards the door should close again

SOURCE: Bosch dishwasher #SHU3306UC/12 The door

Hi -
It's almost impossible to repair the latch if it's broken. It composed of fiddly interlocking plastic parts and a spring. When they break, it's usually because one of the plastic arms or spigots has snapped off. There's too much stress on the latch for any improvised repair to last very long. A new latch only costs about $15 anyway, so it's probably not worth repairing.
Bosch part number for the latch is 419827. This is the Bosch authorised substitute for original part number 165243. It may also be worth getting a new connecting rod, which is essentially just a brace. This is part number 263807 and costs about $2. You will also need to re-use the microswitch and the latch cover (color coded for your fascia panel) from the existing latch assembly. Both of these simply clip on to the new latch assembly.
Hope this helps. If you need supplier details or fitting instructions please let me know. You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.
Regards, BElectric

GE Adora dishwasher door will not close

Check where the hinges on both sides enter back into the machine as the door closes. Sometimes a little piece of anything can keep the door from closing completely also check to see if anything is sticking out from the back of one of the racks. This also would keep the door from closing. Good luck.

Dishwasher door won't close

First make sure nothing is blocking the door. Make sure it's not hitting the side of your cabinets. Next, try removing both racks and try closing the door. I'll bet it will close now. If not, then you may have a door hinge or latch problem.

The door won't latch

The most common problem with the door not latching is the top rack not being completely in the back position. Check the rack to make sure that there is nothing jammed and not letting the rack completely close, also make sure that water tube lines up. On most models there is not real adjustments for the door latch.

Want to switch the side the door opens on my lg dryer

The directions for reversing the door can be found on page 13 and 14, with pictures of the operation. Open the door to reverse. Check the 10 screws that need to be removed (6 on the left, 4 on the right). Remove 4 dummy screws with a screwdriver. Remove the two screws from, and disassemble, the latch. Hold on to the hinge while removing 4 screws from the hinge (to prevent the door from dropping). Remove the door from the cabinet cover. Move the door to the left side and insert a hinge into a hinge hole. Hold on to the hinge while screwing down the hinge (to prevent the door from dropping). Insert the latch to the right side and install the screws. Screw down the 4 dummy screws to the right side. Check that the door closes and latches properly.

Washing machine won't start

Check your door when it closes, it should hit a push-in button above that door latch, at times I have seen the door hinge bent down just some, causing the door not to strike that button dead on.

If thats fine, then its likely to be the door latch assembly or the CCU board bad.

My KitchenAid Dishwasher door won't stay closed. It keeps popping open after a few seconds.

I experienced the same problem after my tension cables broke. The door fell open with such force that it bent the hinges a little. If you've replaced the tension strings (which you should do every 5-8 years) then you don't have to replace the latch. I did and it didn't solve the problem.
Here's the solution:
Put a towel at the bottom of each side of the door by the hinge.
Push the door closed a couple of times to bend back the hinges.
Remove the towels and you're back in action.
Good luck
