Internet connectivity problem

Hi, I am using the cable connectivity in Singapore.
The WRT54G router fails to connect to the internet intermittently. The wireless works fine, but the system is not able to connect to the internet.
upon resetting the router or cold booting it, the connection starts to work again.
Could someone hel me get rid of this problem.

My problem is also the touchy internet conection. I have a new vista pc and a xp home edition pc hooked up to the router through the eathernet cabels, and internet from COX cable. When setting it up I ended up having to spend five and a half hours with tech support just to install. The connection will work fine for accessing my AOL e-mail but many sites are slow or won't respond, also I play America's Army and it is effecting that in odd ways such as clicking to join a server but nada happening not even some thing saying that a problem happened its like it just ignores me. My major frustration is that when trying to download programs my transfer speed is less than that of dial up and I have cable around 25 - 36kbps when before using the router often speed would be 1 mbps. I have heard that it might be that my connection and router have diffrent data rates but I can't find what those values would be. Heads up I know enough about computers to go from folder to folder in windows and hook up all the cables so help for an idiot would be appreciated.

Try loading an alternative firmware, e.g. openwrt. Actually there are lots of it on the web HyperWRT, Tomato, X-WRT, DD-WRT, etc.of course not all works fine, but if you can try everything its good. i have a Linksys WRT54G ver 2.0 even the latest firmware from their site sucks i mean really sucks...you don't have to be techy just always follow the read me and you'll do just fine...try reading a lot...it helps

Hi,
what is the wireless status in system tray? is it local or local and internet.
1. first check if it works fine with wire conection or not.
2.if it fine with cable then issue is with wireless. probably issue with Wireless security key.
3. go to available wireless networks and select the net work, if it is asking for wireless key please enter that. if you donot remember that perform router reset.that takes care of it.

Router causing internet connection to fail intermittently

Hello,
There are a few things can make your wireless router to lose your connection. I like to start with the most simple things first. First clear Out any clutter on your browser. If your are using Internet explorer, go to tools click delete browsing history. When the box appears, clear out the first 3 things. History, Cookies, and temporary Internet files. Firefox, you click on tools, clear private internet files.
After than do a disk cleanup.
In start menu, go to all programs, accessories, system tools and select disk clean up. After this unplug Cable modem's electric cord, unplug the power to your wireless router, leave it unplugged for a couple of minutes, Then plug in your modem, router and restart your pc in that order. If that doesn't work you can always change you network name and WEP key, Hope this helps, also I was assuming you are using a PC and not Mac.

Router not seeing internet connection

If you are on cable internet, you need to perform MAC Address Cloning. Access the router's setup page using your main PC, under SETUP tab, there's a sub-tab called MAC Address Clone. Enable that and click on "Clone My PC's MAC" then click on Save Settings. Power cycle the router and the modem. You should be online after that.

Sound like you have a bad network card on the PC or the router ports have gone bad.
Have you tried different ports on the router?
The problem could also be in the ethernet cable.
Try another cable and see if that makes any difference.

Need to add Linksys WRT54G-TM wireless router with Linksys SPA 2102 phone adapter

your SPA2102-R seems to have one ethernet connection and one internet connection.
your WRT54G-TM seems to have one internet connection and 4 ethernet connections.

What you are trying to achive is; plug a ethernet cable into the ethernet connection on your SPA2102-R then plug the other end into the internet port of the WRT54G-TM

hope this helps, I have assumed that you intend to use a DSL broadband supplier not ADSL.

if you are changing service from DSL to ADSL then your WRT54G-TM needs to be first in line configured and working. then plug the internet port from the SPA2102-R into any of the WRT54G-TM ethernet ports.

Try reconfiguring the Linksys router. Click on this link for instructions on how to configure the router with a cable Internet connection.
http://www3.nohold.net/noHoldCust56/Prod_6/KnowledgePortal/KPScripts/amsviewer.asp?docid=4da24a60bfc84fe9ad65ce672b4b8b52_KB3686_EN_070208_v1.xml&amsstatsid=4067617

After configuring the router and if you already have an Internet connection, then connect your second computer to any numbered port of the router (port 1,2,3, or 4) and test the Internet connection.
Configure the wireless settings of the router by following the steps on this link.
http://www3.nohold.net/noHoldCust56/Prod_6/KnowledgePortal/KPScripts/amsviewer.asp?docid=2f99c35863934424a932742692a5e83b_KB4024_EN_070329_v1.xml&amsstatsid=4067626

If you want to have a wireless security for your network, you may clck on this link for instructions.
http://www3.nohold.net/noHoldCust56/Prod_6/KnowledgePortal/KPScripts/amsviewer.asp?docid=2f99c35863934424a932742692a5e83b_KB4024_EN_070329_v1.xml&amsstatsid=4067626

Then try connecting your wireless computer to the name of your wireless network and enter the security key (if you have created one).

Connection drop-outs

Is your laptop wireless adapter a compatable brand. It doesn't necessarily mean the router is bad, you may even be getting RADIO interference from a cordlees or a cell phone in it's path. Do you have the capability to plug a cat-5 cable directly into your laptop from the router when you lose wireless? Check the wireless channels and see about changing the channel on your cordless phone too. May not work, just a hunch.

Good Luck
